[RELZ] Fallout Who: Cpt Jack Harkness 1.0

Post » Sun Dec 26, 2010 2:18 am

Morning guys and girls,

as a bit of a treat and a lead up to my gigantic project, http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/162211-the-last-child-of-gallifrey-wipz/, I spent a couple of hours over the past few days knocking up this little present for all my dedicated Who fan followers.

You don't HAVE to appreciate Doctor Who or Torchwood to enjoy it, as it comes with a mini-quest-esque thingy which possibly resolves with the player getting hold of a nifty teleportation device called a Vortex Manipulator (See http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Vortex_manipulator).

Anyway, it was just a quicky, the texturing on his shirt's pretty atrocious but I don't pretend to be rather nifty at that side of the fence.

Firstly, a big thanks to the guys over at the GECK thread for helping me get my head around the 890 line script I drafted up for this last night.

Secondly, a big thanks to all my followers for your support.

It's only a 1.24MB dl and there's a pretty summarised but helpful Readme inclusive in the zipped file, so give it a spin and any questions, comments or criticisms (bugs included) would be a) appreciated and B) taken onboard.

What a great surprise! I have downloaded him and going to let him find me later :D I know he doesn't have a whole big companion system behind him, but that doesn't bother me in the least, I am just so happy to see Captain Jack  I will give you any feedback if I see issues or even if I don't :) Thank you!!

Heheh, youre welcome :) The only bug someones found so far is that he won't equip any ruddy weapons, but that's a two minute fix job I can work around this evening if I get a chance.

I didn't take him into combat yet, but I noticed he didn't have any ammo (totally fine by me cause I prefer to give my companions their ammo). The only thing that stuck out with me...is his nose looks a bit funny. Anyways, I did a search for images of him and I am working on his features in the G.E.C.K. Wow, it isn't easy, but it is fun since I love that character. I also need to take a look at http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6982 to see if there is a more fitting hairstyle for him.

Any way you could fix the face? It looks a little, erm, off, to put it lightly. I do like the concept of this, though.

I spent a little time working with the basic features, and it still needs a bit of tweaking. Here is what I have so far though. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I just want to make sure I am going the right direction.

First, the images I am mainly using are http://www.radiotimes.com/shows/torchwood/gallery/captain-jack-harkness/003/photo_lrg.jpg and http://www.radiotimes.com/shows/torchwood/gallery/captain-jack-harkness/002/photo_lrg.jpg

Here is what I have done so far:

http://img213.imageshack.us/i/screenshot23l.png/
http://img829.imageshack.us/i/screenshot27.png/

I can't find any good hair as a resource, so what he has will have to stay unless someone wants to make his hair.

P.S. I use project beauty in my game, so results will vary.

Lovely :) Indeed, he looked nothing like Jack when I'd finished but this was something done over a few hours, and the GECKs facial modifier was pissing me right off, so I abandoned it in the end. Glad youre having fun though :)

I did a quick test with him and he uses his weapon just fine. I gave him the ammo threw G.E.C.K. I will spend time with him later and see if he will use weapons that I give him and try some other tests with him. I held off making any further cosmetic changes to him since you may be updating him. At any rate, I am very pleased to have my Captain Jack.

I wouldn't mind if you wanted me to work on his face after all the little bugs are worked out and he is ready for the final release. I know G.E.C.K. can be a pain in the tardis, and since I love the character, I would love to take on the task of his face.

It also crossed my mind that having Capt Jack released first was a great way to introduce the Tardis into the game (instead of the other way around) because of the way he introduced into the game.

You're doing a fine job so far, just needs a bit more work, imo. It's not easy getting such a beautiful man down right, heh.

Oh, and he's nothing without the trenchcoat, so if you could do something about that...

Thank you :) You are 100% correct, that is why I will wait till the project is done so I don't have to do it twice, and if demeggy is ok with it as well.

With my quick search, I found http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4128 that could be passable for his trench coat look. Shame it doesn't have brown shoes, but the author gives permission to do what anyone wants with, but credit would be nice.

[edit to add] There is a small problem. When you start a fresh game, the clever Capt Jack shows up in the birthing room  I find it funny, but he didn't seem to show up at his usual times when I tried the mod earlier with a save already in progress. I will give it more time with this fresh game to see if he will show up eventually (again).

Crumbs, you have been putting it through its paces - just what I like to see! :D *slaps forehead* Just twigged, it's most probably worth conditonalising his appearance to appear AFTER leaving Vault 101 for the first time... haha...

I'll send you a PM anyways :)

Edit:

There is a Trenchcoat for him in the GECK, but I changed his outfit to the Braces as I wasn't happy with it :)

hate to say it but Harkness doesn't look right,

may I suggest the following as it worked for oblivion. I don't know if you were aware of this method ...

create a new race called harkness

use facegen to create the harkness face.

import the head geometry to the harkness race

import the face texture as the races head texture..
