Hello,
Yesterday, out of the blue I decided to play some Fallout 3, I hadn't played in some months. Started up the game, got to the menu which loaded normally, went to Continue my game, and the game crashed with the following information:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Fallout3.exe Application Version: 1.7.0.3 Application Timestamp: 4a40f18b Fault Module Name: Fallout3.exe Fault Module Version: 1.7.0.3 Fault Module Timestamp: 4a40f18b Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 006ddf7b OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
This same error persists in any instance where the game should start it's 3D engine, ergo:
Use of the Continue option
Loading any save
Starting a new game
Here is my machine information:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, fully updated.
ATI Radeon HD 4870 (1 GB GDDR5) Graphics Card
8 GB DDR2 Memory
320 GB WD Caviar HDD
Some Audio Chipset, built onto my motherboard.
Below is a list of all the things I have tried so far, which I will update as suggestions are received. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Patched up to version 1.7.
Reinstalled the game and repatched.
Updated graphics card driver.
Updated sound driver.
Tried compatibility settings for: Windows XP, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows Vista SP1, Windows 2000.
Turned off "disable desktop composition."
Attempted running the game in a window (this actually caused it to crash before the main menu loaded.)
Updated Games for Windows Live service.
Deleted "fallout.ini".
Hello,
maybe this may help some people stucked with launching problem on Fallout 3:
I installed last week a fresh new Fallout3 game on my son's PC :
- WIN 7 édition familiale premium (French name),
- Intel dual core CPU, 2GB Ram,
- geforce GTS250
- AND Realtek audio chipset on mother board
Installation run fine, the game starts at the end.
We play 5 minutes, then quit the game normally, and switch off the PC.
AND THEN, after the next reboot, the game was no longer able to go further than the "NEW game" menu : its crashes !!
(Instead of crashing after the NEW game menu, it should go on and display the intro video, showing the radio lamp starting playing, etc.. )....
The problem then appears again and again, even after a re installation of the game !.... and even after patching the game to 1.7 Fr .....
Looking at that forum, first trying to update my drivers ( video card, audio drivers, even mother board driver) but no more success !
In fact only one advice help me to find a solution in my case :
somewhere in that forum, someone said this crash (in that context) seems to comes from AUDIO problem,
specifically if you have audio chipset on motherboard, and he mentioned Realtek chipset (that is my case, and surely the case of many peeople around there).....
As I had already updated Realtek audio drivers (in fact Realtek software is added during that step) with drivers provided on the motherboard website (Gygabyte),
I then decided to REMOVE that realtek stuff, and then to reboot, to get installation of the DEFAULT MICROSOFT related drivers....
... After reinstalling the game, this time it works perfectly ....... (after many reboot; play , game, and saves)....
Hope its help people having same problem (but it's hard to define "same problem" however)
Note : the last install curiously did not add a shortcut (to the FalloutLauncher application, located on the DVD) on the desk, so i manually add it.
