Fallout 3 will not start

We have had this game a grand total of 1 day. Bought from Gamestop online and downloaded from their Impulse thing, the game has all the files in fine and after finding this wedsite had an update for it, it's updated to the current one.

The computer is running Window 7, so the game has been set to run as admin and with compatability for XP. The computer is maybe 2 years or so old and just about top of the line (happy things happen when a computer is under warrenty and breaks ^_^ ) There's no reason, that I can find, that the game shouldn't run with those settings but it won't.

It goes to launcher, hit play, it goes to black as it should and either will immedietly exit or will get a short snipit of opening music before exiting with a windows box saying the game has stopped working and is looking for a solution, ending with it'll keep in touch when it finds said solution.

I've reinstalled this game 3 times now, trying different methods and I'm out of ideas, my tech guy's out of ideas (granted he's across the country and not really about to do much) please someone help. My fiance has been looking forward to having the pc version and I hate not being able to get this to work for him.

I'm no expert, but I had the same problem and got to the bottom of it by using Microsoft's tutorial on running a clean boot in Windows 7 (basically checking off boxes in the list of programs/operations that start upon boot and rebooting and relaunching until you find the culprit) at the suggestion of a member here. It took some time, but it worked. Here's the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

You should also post your system info (use DXDIAG) so the more experienced people here can have a look.
