Just spreading the news. Sorry if this has already been posted. Thoughts on this?

Edit: Interesting response from Pete Hines. Maybe it's worth taking the article with a grain of salt. https://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/612357233855332352

Wait.. Does this mean PC is getting restricted to 1080p with a cap at 30 FPS? New Vegas had that 60 FPS cap, but 30 FPS? Really?

The human eye can't tell the difference between 30 FPs and 3000 FPS. So no problem.

It is a little disappointing, but certainly not a deal breaker.

I do wonder what the reasoning behind this decision was.

Should be two options, one for 720P/60FPS and another for 1080P/30FPS. Hence why I created my topic about that.

As long as the things move NOT like a slide show like some old games I've owned...I honestly don't care if it's 60 or 30.

And I wonder if it means the game is going to be restricted to 30 FPS...... or, does it mean that on marginal systems, graphics etc. will be scaled back to maintain the 30 FPS..... I mean, seriously, some folks out there in the world have machines that could run the game at 200 FPS, with everything turned to max...... are those folks going to be stuck at 1080p, and 30 FPS as well?

Actually, I kinda doubt it will be a 'hard and fast' rule. Probably more to it, that we just don't know yet.

Also in that article, "no plans for paid mods" too.

Wait is this including PC? Not like my potato can run it at anymore than 15 frames with a resolution of 800x600 but I wonder what the reasoning behind that is.

And Todd you better not tell me "We want a cinematic experience for Fallout"

EDIT: Ok seems like that site was most likely just putting out some clickbait

My concern is that this will be similar to Skyrim, where the framerate has a hard limit before the physics start going crazy. That's the worst case scenario, but I can't imagine Bethesda being that incompetent twice.

Skyrim was fine at 60 on the pc, so why would it be capped to 30 now? I am guessing 30 on consoles, 60 on pc.

I'm calling BS on being 1080p/60fps on consoles.

Just re read the OP and looked at Pete Hines' response. I've learned over the years not to trust everything that he says, but this time I'll just wait and see.

However, should this turn out true, I wonder what happens to our games when they get loaded down with mods (and believe me, they will). Many of us experienced mod users (and authors, I assume) know full well that mods can seriously affect FPS. With a 30 FPS limit, that doesn't leave much room, and can and will turn your game into a slideshow quickly.

This would be a nightmare scenario. Note that Pete isn't exactly denying this though, so we can't be sure this is false, but it is worth noting that he's distancing himself from the article and saying nothing has been revealed about this yet. Maybe Todd and Pete aren't on the same page? Or maybe this whole article is a lie?

you should check out those high framerate televisions and see what they do to what you're watching (provided what you're watching was shot in high framerate/HD), personally it actually feels really weird to me and dislike high frame rate TVs that are up in the 100fps. as far as gaming is concerned though. I can tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps, its just that the difference is so minor its really not worth being upset over... unless you've spent over $1000 on a gaming rig specificly for playing in high fps which is a personal choice.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if the Xbox One could even handle 1080p.

Xbox One at 1080P I'm suspicious of as well but Gut Feeling, Graphics shouldn't be an issue for Fallout 4.

That's why I'm calling the Bs the XB1 and the PS4(to a lesser degree) can barely handle 1080p as it is and keep a stable 30FPS. On the other hand Fallout isn't the most detailed game. So we'll see but something tell me there will be FPS issues.

Apparently that's a myth brought about by the 24 fps standard used in the movie industry. Many people see the difference between 30 fps and 60, and I happen to believe them.

I doubt that this will be the case on PC.

If it is, this is a deal breaker.

I can most definitely tell a difference. 30 FPS feels sluggish and choppy, whereas 60 FPS feels fast and smooth.

I could easily tell the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS when I played both Borderlands 2 and Dark Souls II on PS4. Definitely noticeable.

So long as Beth leaves the settings available for me to tweak on, I don't care what they do. I bounce off the 60FPS cap I have imposed on framerate in New Vegas regularly, sure, 4 is going to take some more horsepower, but, I still don't want to be capped at 30. The 1080p thing doesn't bother me overmuch, as that is the native resolution for my monitor in any event.

When I played Dragonball XV I could tell the difference. The gameplay is smoother but 30FPS isn't bad for me at all.

You can see a pretty big differencehttp://30vs60.com/ro2.php with a couple of other examples between 30 and 60 FPS.

It's a lot easier to tell by actually playing rather than watching so some people might not see that much of a difference.
