Is there any way to get Fallout $ without needing to install Steam and create a Steam account. Don't like Steam - have had too many problems with them. So is there just a Fallout 4 stand alone out there ???
Thanks,

No, unfortunately not. The best you can do is switch to offline mode after you install FO4, but you'll still need Steam I'm afraid. Which svcks.
Can't help but to wonder what the "issues" with Steam might have been. Almost everyone else has had zero issues, myself included.
Still not understanding all the Steam hate...
Me neither. It's just a distribution platform and a very light DRM.
Yes with lots of virus, botnets, and bitcoins miners installed on your PC. I wouldn't suggest it though, what's the problem with steam?
To a lot of people it's simply the fact that they "have" to do something. Having to to put something on your computer that you don't want just to play a game can feel rather intrusive. Also, Steam wasn't always what it is today.. I rather enjoy steam now but when it first came out I hated it. It was an intrusive memory hog. Some people might have left over hate from the days of yore.. ..
Eh, I dislike Steam because it has become a necessary third party for lots of PC games. It's handy and all, and IMO it's a better alternative to a lot of other DRM options, but it kind of irks me to have to run it to install and play many of the games I like. Plus, there's the whole "it's nobody's business what I play and when" thing.
"When it first came out" yea, 13 years ago. I remember, I was there. The switch over from WON to Steam was hectic and laggy and buggy. But that was 13 years ago. Now it just launches with my PC, keeps my games up to date, and never bothers me at all. If it is all about "fighting the system" then, well there is nothing I can say. As we get older we realize that there is very little actual control over things in this world; you quite often have to do things you don't want to do. And as far as "doing things you don't want to do" using Steam is quite far down the list of egregiously intrusive and obligatory things we must do...
I've been using Steam for almost 11 years now and I've never seen it hogging system resources. Must have been a bug that exist before I joined Steam, I wasn't there from the beginning.
As for intrusiveness.. People should really start to realize that Steam is less intrusive than modern operating systems themselves.
I don't think it was a "bug" - I think multi-core processors just weren't as widespread back then. Steam competed for time on single-core processors to such a degree that it could interfere with smooth gameplay, but pop in even just a dual-core processor, and the problem disappears.
Steam definitely doesn't bog down my computer, don't even notice it's on at all...only thing it does do on my computer is let me take screenies which is handy
It was considered a resource hog in the early days because PCs average installed memory was ~1GB back then.
I had 1GB back then and Steam's impact was negligible.
I don't mind having to buy stuff through steam, or even activate games via steam, but its should simply be a webpage thing, not a program I have to install on my hard drive. It's [censored] annoying that I have to wait and watch steam update every goddam time I start it. I don't care if it's up to date, I didn't even want it in the first place.
I've been using Steam since the release of Half Life 2, way back then had a few bugs to stamp out, NEVER had a problem since then.
Hater's gonna hate.
That is why you let it auto start. I don't even notice it updating my games anymore. You can even turn off updates for games you no longer play, if it bothers you that much. It just sits in its corner doing what it is supposed to do. It is less obtrusive that your average AV program...
And yet it's the one I always notice.
I tried turning off auto-update for Skyrim, but it kept turning it back on every time it start up. That messed up my mods more than a few times and I've hated it ever since.
Well there is a way to play on pc without steam but you are not allowed to talk about it.
While I object, philosophically, to needing an internet connection for a single player/offline game I bought at a store (don't get me started on FO4 not all being on the disc)....
...eh, I'm used to it now. Been using Steam since Half Life 2, so it's been a long time. And it doesn't really hog resources, because I only run it when I need to run a game in my Steam library (just like I only open Origin when I want to play one of the 3-4 games I have there. Or only open the Blizzard Launcher when I want to play Diablo 3.)
(I'm also used to/resigned to , the fact that we're firmly heading into all-online/all-authentication age, where expecting your stuff to just run off the grid is a lost cause.)
