Fallout 4 won 36 GOTY awards for 2015, while TW3: WH won 166

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 10:42 pm

Yeah, it's funny. Everyone used to always brag that Bethesda wins so many awards and that is proof that their games are the GOAT.

Now that F4 doesn't even come close to their previous track record, everyone is saying the awards don't mean anything. :bonk:

GOTY awards are diluted these days since there are so many handed out, I agree that they don't mean much anymore, but Bethesda not winning as many as they have before, when there were less handed out, means something, and hopefully Bethesda sees that as a sign to improve next time.

It's still broadly the same: dds for textures and nif for meshes. They have made some significant improvements in FO4, but really it's still the same old stuff I've worked on since Oblivion and indeed I've succeeded in importing my random Oblivion gubbins into FO4 with little effort. One improvement that is confounding me is getting the physics-enabled stuff to work properly in outfits, which has so far eluded me, but it's early days yet.

Although it's wrong to say that there's no differences, since there have been incremental updates, some of which have seen significant improvements, I think it's hard to argue it's not still the same old engine lurking under it all.

And (again) people that claimed to not care about this sort of thing when it was Skyrim winning all the sudden think it's an amazing achievement now. Nah it's only Bethesda fans that are being unreasonable though...

I have no idea what else to say.

I will say this I don't care about people streaming themselves playing Fallout 4 on twitch.tv, I don't care about reviews of what other people's opinions are of video games, I don't care about the number of Game of the Year (GOTY) awards a video game publishing companies and a video game development companies wins, I don't care how many copies of a video game sells.

All I know is that the video game industry looks at sales of copies of their video games, and that they do look a little bit at the Game of the Year (GOTY) awards that they win.

Otherwise Pete Hines wouldn't go on saying every time Bethesda Game Studios releases a video game for sale that you know him as Todd Howard whose games have gone to win multiple consecutive video game Game of the Year (GOTY) awards with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

All in all I will say I'm very happy with Fallout 4 selling extremely well and I'm very happy with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt selling extremely well and that Bethesda Game Studios has competition now and has to step it up, because they can't stay like this forever.

Nothing lasts forever, not even CD Projekt RED might last forever.

That is all I have to say. This is reality.

then why all these posts Ballowers? why are you constantly posting about "witcher won more than ", "Witcher Sold this many copies on this distribution platform than ", "witcher has an average review score of while only has a review score of "..

for a person who doesn't care, you seem to fixate on it and post about it quite a bit.

you use the term "competition" very loosely.. Witcher and FO/TES are very, VERY different kinds of games.. you could just as easily say CoD, or Zelda is just as much competition for beth as the witcher provides..

they may both be games, but they are very different kinds of games..

Of course The Witcher video games are very different compared to Bethesda Game Studios developed RPG video games, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a open world RPG video game now.

The next video game that CD Projekt RED is developing is Cyberpunk 2077 and it will also be a open world RPG video game this time with fully customizable male and female Player Characters (PC's), the next thing is that CD Projekt RED is looking into making your Player Characters (PC's) being able to pick up every single item in front of her face or his face.

CD Projekt RED is looking into this because the paying customers and fans asked CD Projekt RED to do it or try to do it.

So that is why Bethesda Game Studios has competition now.

Unless you believe Bethesda Game Studios to be on top of this forever? Which is not reality.

In a way yes, CD Projekt RED employees also said themselves that they got inspiration for the Skellige Islands in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but that they wanted to make more memorable characters, because The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim didn't really have many memorable characters.

To me the only memorable characters in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are Alduin, Parthurnaax, and Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak, that's it.

Yup. I noticed this too.

And apart from awards, Fallou4 didn't exactly hit it out of the park for scores either. I really don't want BGS to brush this off as a fluke. I noticed FO4 was not up to BGS standards personally.

Fallout 4 is as objectively inferior to The Witcher 3 in terms of design in a range of categories as you can reasonably be. Just as The Witcher 3 is objectively inferior to Fallout 4 in a range of categories as you can reasonably be.

The Witcher 3 is far more cohesive in its design than Fallout 4. Fallout 4 has far better visual character customization. The story and characters are objectively more developed in The Witcher 3 than in Fallout 4. The shooting mechanics are objectively better in Fallout 4.

Get the point?

I don't care. I might've tried Witcher 3 as it caught my attention but the game doesn't feel as "open" and free as Bethesda's games are.

I honestly feel that Bethesda don't care as much for Fallout as they do for Elder Scrolls. I don't think Bethesda was aiming for "RPG greatness" with Fallout 4 like they tend to do with Elder Scrolls (or try to in some cases). Though I'm glad Bethesda's GOTY streak is still going. FO4 is the 5th game in a row that Bethesda has created which won GOTY awards.

At least just my opinion... I still love and enjoy FO4 greatly but I feel it isn't as good as Bethesda could've done and I feel the reason being is what I've said. I still can't wait to see what DLC we will get for FO4. It has a lot of great potential and from what we've seen in Skyrim's DLCs... We might just get this potential.

Did Fallout 4 score a 'rpg of the year' award from any known magazine? I know it grabbed some 'game of the year' awards but I'm curious if it also won its own genre anywhere.

Did a cursory look. Didn't find anything. Spent only like a minute looking though so if you are really interested I'd say go search for it.

It's not beneficial to rub another game's success in Bethesda's face. It is, however, time for them to take a hard look at whether releasing TES 2.0 every 4 years is a good idea.

Yes awards for one of the reasons why awards are given out to video games.

A bunch of off topic posts removed.

Read the OP again, if needed, and remember what the thread is about.

I don't think Fo4 is TES 2.0,it's too different to call it that. Factions, dialogue, combat, character stats make them different enough imo.

They still share the base principles of world design, difficulty curve, exploration emphasis and quest writing but that's more Bethesda than TES, it's their recipe of game design that they would probably bring with them into any game from any genre they would try. For me that's not a bad thing, I love the Bethesda recipe.

Fallout 4 is a poor quality game, slipping slowly into FPS territory. I found no enjoyment playing it what's so ever, and this came straight from a F3 and NV marathon into this game. I expected something that'd surpass New Vegas - or at least F3 - but all I got was a cliché and predictable story that was basically F3 spun on it's head.

Spoiler
Instead of daddy finding, it's son finding. Instead of son being a goodie, he's a baddie (depending on how you go about things)

Witcher 3 I bought for the sake of it because it was on sale, and I've so far sunk the past week into it after installing. It's a good game, and It's a far better RPG than F4. The choices I make in this game actually feel like they have consequences...which they do. Something Fallout 4 forgot to take on from New Vegas. The enemies are challenging and punishing if you don't have a strategic mind about you, in comparison to Fallout 4's bullet sponges that take no thinking to kill "just keep shooting". As a usual melee only character Fallout was just unenjoyable, weapons were weak, hit boxes so close I might as well just punch, perks that didn't really change anything...there was basically less customising of my character everywhere.

Witcher 3 is a great stand alone game - if you've never play the first two games. Fallout 4 is a bland game that won't stand the test of time without severe help from mods, it's a weak sequel when looked at side by side with the prequels.

Skyrim stood the test of time without mods, so can Fallout 4.

People still playing, people still talking, journalists using it as a reference for new games in its genre, other developers advertising their games as the Skyrim killer...
