Bingo.
"Bethesda Game Studios to step up writing harder for Fallout 4 expansion pack quests storylines?
My god, how could anyone possibly answer "No," to this question? Every developer should strive to "step up writing harder," whether they have won all awards on planet Earth or no awards at all. Awards have nothing to do with it. Every artist in every medium should strive to do better work than they have done in the past. And all consumers and patrons of every artist should expect better work, all the time, as a matter of course. This should be a given.
I think people voted "no" more like "no, thread creator, you shouldn't make a Witcher 3 is better than Fallout thread every day"
Yikes, I didn't even look at the voting results before I wrote my post. You're right - some people actually did vote, "No."
I sincerely hope you're right. I hope these votes are just a negative reaction to Ballowers100 himself. Because if people honestly believe that developers should not strive to improve their games then we are truly lost.
It definitely is. For me, the weakest and most forgettable of five main entries in the series is Oblivion. I cannot begin to play that lackluster, uninspired game without mods. I thought Skyrim was a definite improvement.
I was one of those "no" votes and it was for *exactly* this reason. Plus, I don't want Bethesda to change their formula into being a Bioware clone focusing mostly on storyline and romances. But yes, I agree. *Every* developer should strive to improve their games. It's just that some people here have decided that *their* definition of improvement is the one and only true path and don't believe that anything Bethesda does is worthwhile.
Bethesda Game Studios does not have to change their style of how they develop their video games, if they just write decent quest storylines.
No idea why you would think this, they wrote decent quest stories in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and to some extent in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
I believe Bethesda is writing decent quest storylines. The problem in FO4 is that the options were more limited due to having a voiced protagonist, which I hope they won't use in their next game.
Also, what I wrote wasn't entirely about you, so you may not fall under the "Bethesda-hating" category that may apply to some others, but at the same time, I don't want Fallout turned into a WItcher 3 clone either. Granted, it is easier to write deeper storylines for a single protagonist with a known background, but I enjoy the freedom of being able to create my own characters in Bethesda games.
I have no idea why you think it's impossible to write deep rich storylines for multiple characters instead of one character, all while being able to create your own fully customizable male and female Player Characters (PC's). It's possible.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had it with not just Geralt of Rivia, but Keira Metz, Triss Merigold, Vernon Roche, Yennefer of Vengenberg, etc.
So I'm pretty sure Bethesda Game Studios can do it, but ever since playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim I feel like Bethesda Game Studios doesn't care anymore and just want you to do anything and everything without consequences and possibly even want you to be immortal as well.
Which Bethesda? Bethesda Softworks or Bethesda Game Studios? Because Bethesda Game Studios is free of Bethesda Softworks now with Todd Howard being able to do what ever the hell he wants like Pete Hines said.
So if Todd Howard says I don't know lets develop a DLC or expansion pack for Fallout 4 where the Player Character can never die "because we don't want you to reload a save game" or straight out of the box be immortal in The Elder Scrolls VI.
Don't you think they can even go further? The removal of the armor and weapons degradation to me seems like a step toward that in a few years and I hate these changes absolutely so much.
Hmmm immortality....now that's a concept that could be worth exploring. Saving and reloading really is such a bother....

We're not talking about Skyrim.
At that Skyrim was only good if you were already a fan of TES, as someone coming from Fallout to TES with Skyrim as their first game, it was bland, lacked a certain maturity, and was pretty boring. Had nice scenery, though. I won't mention the buggy mess it was, and remains to be in some parts of the game.
I like how you completely ignored Battlebloodmage telling you earlier in this thread that Fallout 4 does, in fact, have some form of armor degradation.
Only Power Armor that's it. I never ignored Battlebloodmage. I just didn't feel like responding because I want ALL armor and weapons to break.
This is one of the most absurd thread openings if I ever saw one. Do you really think the removal of the dialogue wheel is an option now between vanilla and expansions, really? Or are you just using any pointless thread you open to bash Bethesda for their design choices in comparison to CDPR and their mighty Witcher? Why not ask for the removal of the voiced protagonist for the expansions too, while you're at it?
Maybe, just maybe you'll purchase Fallout 4? , hmm... let me tell you one thing, I did purchase the game (and the second copy, and the artbook for that matter) and I don't feel entitled at all to ask BGS to include my game design preferences in the expansions. That's their design choice and is not up for a vote on the forum, people will like it and buy it or not like and not buy.
Reminds me of our Fable vs Morrowind days here in the community discussion.
Let's not confuse the npcs with the playable character. Yes, for npcs Bethesda could do better background stories and interactions, but for the playable character, what bekkilyn said is true, you can't have a free to define character like in TES and the focused narrative of a fixed protagonist like Geralt. You simply can't, to allow players to roleplay more types of characters you need to make compromises in narrative and interactions with the other characters. Luckily for you, it seems Bethesda is slowly embracing the form of a more defined playable character, which I hope stays in Fallout only.
We are allowed to criticize the bad design decisions.
Call me entitled I don't care. It is getting very annoying people calling other people entitled just because they don't like something and will not purchase it due to that reason and want a change.
I didn't confuse the Player Character (PC) and NPC's at all. Yes you can do it it's possible if you take your time.
