Fallout 3 Worth Buying?

You will enjoy it if you think about it as a wasteland survival and exploration game with a little fallout thrown in and less of a sequel to fallout2. As that, it is a great game and a lot of fun to play.

I've been wondering if Fallout 3 lives up to the expectations set by Fallouts 1 and 2.

A very loud, resounding "NO!" from me. Though I still say it's worth buying.

It's definitely worth playing. I loved it at first, but by the time I was finished I was a little disappointed with it. It's not as big and complex as Fallout 2, there's certainly nothing like New Reno for example and everything that was going on there. Plus, you might find it a bit watered down and there are comparatively few quests. But it's still a very good game and you should play it if you're at all interested. I frankly feel sorry for all the guys who're like "It has no right to call itself Fallout 3! It's not Fallout 3 and I for one will never play it!" blah blah. They might be right but they're still depriving themselves of a good game. And considering how rare good single player RPGs are that's sad indeed.

I've been wondering if Fallout 3 lives up to the expectations set by Fallouts 1 and 2. Oblivion, quite frankly, was a downpoint in The Elder Scrolls, I'd like to know if Fallout 3 would disappoint me or if it's still pretty good in terms of complexity and RPG elements.

It didn't win RPG of the year for nothing! :) Game is great. Modding is booming already as well. :D

I am an "old school" Fallout fan.

Liked F1, Loved F2, was a bit wishy wash over Tactics, hated Brotherhood of sh*t, and was gutted Van Buren didnt make it out the door. Curse stupid cheap ass MMO driven Interplay!

I must say when I started playing Fallout 3 I fell in love. Totally.

Its gorgeous. It took Oblivion which I liked, and Falloutified it. Which I also liked. It also sorted the serious gripes I have with Oblivion. Great!

I played it, and as I progressed I began to fall out of love.

I should take the opportunity to point out here I am a total geek. Love to read, and i love to write. I also love my games, and my RPGs in particular.

Playing the game, as a writer, I began to wince and groan and finally *facepalm* at the terrible appalling writing in this game. From the dialogue to the over use of the Kobiyashi Maru Scenario in side quests, to the Plot Hole riddled Main Quest.
Bethesda did not hire professional writers for the Fallout 3 project by their own admission writing was not a "battle they wished to fight" - they preferred to hire Liam Neeson to play Dad. Personally id have rather done without him destroying his reputation as a great and intelligent actor in my eyes by doing the VAs for this badly written piece of cr*p and have gotten a decently written story line.

Thats why I started a REQ thread in the mods forum begging someone to fix the writing.

If you can avoid the MQ as much as possible, download mods that allow you to PA train outside of the Citadel, then you will be able to play this game without to much trouble. Leave the MQ until absolute last, until there is nothing left to do because no offence to Bethsda there is just no point in doing it.

Which is a big minus for the game actually.

Buy the game certainly it IS worth it in spite of what the vitriolic morons from NMA who have NEVER PLAYED THE GAME, or have played about AN HOUR Of the whole Main Quest, are saying.

Don't buy it until they resolved the problems via a patch, But the Screen Tearing is horrid in the 360 version. They should fix that too...well hopefully them lazy bugers
