Fallout 4's Writing [Merged Threads]

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 2:44 pm

The writing is shallow and the story is generally not great at all by RPG standards. Standards set by Fallout 1+2 , Baulders Gate, Arcanum, Planescape Torment, and MAYBE Morrowind (even though it isnt as good as the other ones)

BUT - the set pieces are where they truly shine. The level designers definitely earned their money- all the attention to detail sprinkled all over the world are pretty amazing. From the funny Teddy bear hospital scene, to the emotional dead couple lounging and seemingly watching the nukes go off- not to mention all the cool letters/holotapes in all the different locations

Gotta give them credit where credit is due with that one

But the actual writers and animators and graphics engine designers need to step up there game. This game basically got them a free paycheck because they re-used everything from the previous games- But the next game better show us something new and do the level designers and us fans justice

thoughts?

To be fair when Fallout 3 was compared to New Vegas I could see where the OP was coming from.

Yet it's the first step on a new console, and frankly 99% of the world tends to disagree with the OP, but he raises some valid points.

Now when Obsidian makes their PS4 fallout game...I'll meet it with much hype.

doubt that will ever happen since Obsidian is busy doing other stuff.

Any way back to topic, why ppl complain when u dont play the game or u dont like it, i mean it look like ur problem wasnt just with Fallout only.

Plz tell me 1 game that was revolutionary when it come down to story, not even Witcher 3 is revolutionary when it come to the whole plot.

Seems to be a lot of creating duplicate threads today. Must be a monday. ;)

Merged a couple of threads together - we don't really need two threads discussing the same thing.

Getting tired of reading about the supposedly bad stories in Bethesda games.

Ernest Hemingway won his Nobel Prize for writing a short novel about an old Cuban fisherman who was down on his luck, went out alone in a skiff, caught the biggest marlin anyone had ever seen and then returned to port, the great fish picked clean by sharks, with little more than the bones of the carcass. A simple but beautiful tale. Thankfully the great literary critics in this community never got a hold of it back in the day or else it might not have even been published let alone receive the most prestigious award given to a piece of literature.

Bethesda's stories are fine. These are games and not meant to be great works of literature or even Hollywood blockbusters. They do their job. If people want great stories they should find other forms of entertainment.

I believe we shouldn't dumb down video games and we should push for good writing instead of just saying "well go watch a movie if you like story."

Games are as much of an art form as movies are.

You lost me when you admitted that you haven't even played the game. Not that I agreed with your points in the first place.

Good writing - Fallout 1+2, Baulders Gate, Planescape Torment, and to a lesser degree Morrowind

Mediocre Writing - Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim

I have played the game though. So I guess I haven't lost you after all. You don't have to buy a game to play it.
