Fallout 4's Writing [Merged Threads]

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 2:45 am

We should just be honest and say that the main story in all Bethesda games is always lackluster.

Skyrim didn't revolutionize the RPG industry based on its garbage main questline about "Dragons" did it? (Yes, Dragons. The generic mystical creature that inhabits every stereotypical medieval fantasy setting.) Sometimes, I go to sleep and I still hear the ringing in my ears. "WHAT IN OBLIVION IS THAT?" "DRAGON!" It haunts me to this very day.

And don't get me started on the President in Fallout 3, who you can just say "YOU WEREN'T ELECTED DUMBO" to and he explodes.

Look at New Vegas which has 29 slides + 4-8 different variations for each slide in their ending. (Developed by Obsidian)

Now look at Fallout 4 which has one single cutscene for every single ending. (Developed by Bethesda)

Look at the dialogue wheel with its illusion of choice, and lack of real depth. A failed attempt to copy Bioware. Yes, Bioware did use illusion of choice in Mass Effect 1. But at least they learned from their mistakes and stopped doing that in their newer titles. If you're going to take something from another company, at least take the good aspect of it.

I think the writing team has been given enough chances.

If we get rid of the writing team and hire some real professionals who actually want to make the story rich and enticing, Bethesda may gain more than just a pocket full of caps from people who download nvde mods and play Call of Duty.

I love dragons and I hope you get eaten by feral ghouls.

I was so scarred by the terrible generic story that I had to download the Thomas the Tank Engine mod to replace all the dragons.

Then stop buying their games. I've bought books and found them not to my taste and then I don't buy more from the same author. It's not rocket surgery.

As a side benefit we won't then have to be subjected to your writing.

I'm sure they will, once they start taking managerial advice from randoms on the internet. It's going to happen bro, I can feel it.

I stopped buying their games after Skyrim. Don't worry, you don't have to tell me. I have some pretty good Fallout 4 knowledge based on my friends and youtube videos.

They aren't earning a single penny from me till they actually hire some people who know how to write stories.

I'm not:)

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the writing of any of their games...but then again I thought the developers of Tetris had great writers..

Bold statement. How many novels you get published? I'm guessing somewhere between nada and zilch.

The validity of your opinion is pretty watered down then.

Video games are an interactive medium, if you only watch them, or hear people talk about them, you have never experienced them. You have only bared witness to the experience of others.

I thought for the most part writing was good. There were flaws, but point out a video game, film, book, that doesn't have them. See that right there, it's called subjectivity. It means the universe doesn't revolve around your opinion.

This. It's like watching a movie with sound turned off or with the sound on and the screen turned off and saying it svcks. Your only getting part of the experience.

Every game company has their strong and weak points. You want a good strong story, go to Bioware, but they don't have a vast open world like Bethesda does in their games. You want a vast open world go to Bethesda where you can make your own character and pave your own way, and have unmatched interaction with the world where you can pick up almost anything. Rockstar has GTA where you can drive around and do a ton of stuff. The Witcher games have you roleplaying Geralt in a grim, advlt world.

No game company has it all, but every game company has that one thing they do really well. Bethesda's strong point is sandbox gameplay.

This is a good point. But let me ask you this, how come Bethesda can't have both?

Why can't they have an amazing story and an open world? It's possible.

BioWare can't write a good game to keep their lights on these days.

So because YOU don't think the story is amazing, automatically makes it so? SMH..

Dude..why even bother with posting this? You know you are going to get drowned out with people telling you you're opinion is wrong and this is the best game ever.

I agree with alot of your points, I enjoy the game for what it is though.

I stopped hoping Beth would have good writers a long time ago. Just hope Obsidian makes another FO, for our...more...traditional....rpg fix in this universe.

I'm just saying that no game company does everything well. That type of company does not exist.

Maybe that's why you don't like Bethesda writing...you have a hard time understanding..

Someone should make a poll about this...oh yea never mind..
