We should just be honest and say that the main story in all Bethesda games is always lackluster.
Skyrim didn't revolutionize the RPG industry based on its garbage main questline about "Dragons" did it? (Yes, Dragons. The generic mystical creature that inhabits every stereotypical medieval fantasy setting.) Sometimes, I go to sleep and I still hear the ringing in my ears. "WHAT IN OBLIVION IS THAT?" "DRAGON!" It haunts me to this very day.
And don't get me started on the President in Fallout 3, who you can just say "YOU WEREN'T ELECTED DUMBO" to and he explodes.
Look at New Vegas which has 29 slides + 4-8 different variations for each slide in their ending. (Developed by Obsidian)
Now look at Fallout 4 which has one single cutscene for every single ending. (Developed by Bethesda)
Look at the dialogue wheel with its illusion of choice, and lack of real depth. A failed attempt to copy Bioware. Yes, Bioware did use illusion of choice in Mass Effect 1. But at least they learned from their mistakes and stopped doing that in their newer titles. If you're going to take something from another company, at least take the good aspect of it.
I think the writing team has been given enough chances.
If we get rid of the writing team and hire some real professionals who actually want to make the story rich and enticing, Bethesda may gain more than just a pocket full of caps from people who download nvde mods and play Call of Duty.
