I read that they bought the IP outright and leased it back to Interplay, for a fee ~ A fee they lose if they don't produce an MMO by 2010.

This is pretty much what has been stated repeatedly.

I'm sorry to all you TES fan's but I really hope that Beth focuses on Fallout.
I am really glad that they bought the IP and I am generally pleased with the end result but I see a fair amount of room for improvement and I would like to see them work on those improvements for the next one.
I think these same improvements would be great for TES too.
I think the current "engine" is a little dated compared to some of what I see coming out.
Perhaps if FO3 is really successful they will be able to afford an additional dev team so they can effectively work on both.

That's the way of thinking about it! Making a game, and having a learning experience with it.

"Fallout 4 is going to be a struggle between the love of a man (17) and a woman (65). They want to get married but are exiled from the space station of Japie22 because of their love. The man is going to collect 9 rare stones from different planets to make a big piece of sushi appear that grants them a wish. which he will use to detonate a nuke in the town they were living in.. hence "fallout" ' by Todd Howard.
Wow!! sounds awesome....

... I would play that game. Just for the absurdness.

Same with TES, they bought the license, turned into a successful series and another is expected in the next 5yrs.

Excuse me? They BOUGHT TES? I was under the impression that they created TES, since they created the first, second, third and forth games in the series.

This is partially true, but there are few additional caveats to the agreement. Here is a link to the actual contract:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1057232/000117091807000324/ex10-49.txt

Here is a summary:

-On April 4th 2007 Beth acquired from Interplay all the intellectual property from the fallout franchise for $5.75 million

-Beth agreed to licence the right to make a fallout themed MMO back to Interplay in exchange for a royalty of 12% of any net profits.

This license is non-transferrable (Interplay can't sell it to anyone else) and is forfeit (goes back to Bethesda) if any of the following occur:

1) Interplay fails to secure $30 million in "minium financing" and start development within 2 years (April 4, 2009 deadline)
2) Interplay fails to commercially launch the MMO within 4 years of starting development (option for 1 year extension with Beth's approval) - (April 4, 2013 or 2014 at the latest)
3) Interplay fails to maintain the MMO with at least 10,000 subscribers for a three month period after launch
4) Interplay goes into bankruptcy or merger (someone else buys them)
5) Interplay fails to pay the royalty.

I think Bethesda made a great deal.

Correction, TES was created by Bethesda. Not bad.

It seems like their assuming we wont boycot them once we play fallout three.

Its their trade mark series. They created it from scratch, I hope they never sell the rights, I dont think anyone else could do it justice.

Trust me, another TES game is due before the next gen comes (ps4, xbox 720?) It is just a matter of time. They have done multiple projects before, but I doubt they would do a TES sequel and a Fallout sequel at the same time.

Depends on Bethesdas size at the time. Blizzard have had no problem doing WotLK, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 almost simultaneously...

But do you think that this game may be ruined by not having enough towns. Thats one of the reasons why oblivion was so good, as they had cities, so i hope that there is at least one huge one instead of loads of little settlements like that megaton place that we can blow up anyway lol.

Ok so I was visiting my daily Fallout 3 websites and I come across a certain quote made by Bethesda's own Todd Howard:

Gamers have been waiting 10 years for Bethesda Softworks' "Fallout 3," for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. "I think it's good for people to miss things," said Todd Howard, executive producer of the game. "Ten years between 'Fallout' is a bit long, but I think there's this nostalgia factor." Fans of the post-Apocalyptic game, set in Washington, D.C., won't have to wait another decade for "Fallout 4." Howard said he believes three years is a good time frame between games.

What is your response to this quote of epic importance? I know some traditional Fallout fans even hate Fallout 3 for keeping the "Fallout" name. So for great justice let the Fallout 4 countdown begin. Until then see you later :bolt:

Haha fallout fans waited 10 years for this one and you already talk about the "next one" ...3 it's not even out yet...:P

And to answear your question: yeah 3 years is much more better than 10 :o

To be honest I can't wait to play Fallout 3, but I don't think I'll buy it right away... On month after mayby and only if "the fans" are pleased with it :D

I think we will see Fallout IV in 5 years.

The next Elder scroll will be released by 2010-2011,so I think they will alternate between Fallout and Elder scroll(until they create a new franchise which is a strong possibility).

The elder scroll V will be the last beth game to grace the Xbox 360/Playstation 3 consoles(with an improved Oblivion engine and animation),while they will create yet another engine and Fallout IV will be the first beth game released for the upcoming generation of consoles.

I'd worry more about PC gaming being around in 3 years - starting today, than start thinking about Fallout 4!

If Fallout 3 succeeds (and all indications are that it has and then some) then a sequel is pretty much guaranteed. You don't need a Todd Howard quote to recognize that obvious truth.

Well, they had aliens in the original fallouts (i never did figure out if they were real aliens or just a name). I hope they don't hurry with Fallout 4 too much, I see much replay value in this one and see no reason to rush a sequel.

I think that's meant to be a joke. Just like how BOS is SOB spent backward, or FEV is Forced Evolutionary Virus instead of flesh eating virus. But seriously if anyone make fallout 4 to be something based on space, or aliens, that maker of fallout 4 is a troll, and being off topic. Fallout 3 is already getting very off topic, I personally don't really care about what happens 30 years in the world of fallout. I don't even bother playing fallout 3, there's nothing related to the main story/plot anymore.

Fallout 2 is about the descendant of the vault dweller, and about what happened right after Fallout 1. I don't think Fallout 3 is worth my time, not even going to play this game. Also I was writing on the interplay forum(like just four five years ago) before they shut the thing down, what the heck happened? can't they at least leave the forums on.

They said in one of the interviews that they wanted another IP to sort of alternate with TES so they didn't get burned out on a single franchise.

So likely TES V after Fallout 3, then Fallout 4, then TES VI, etc. =p

-Drake Steel

hahahaha :)
that would be nice and welcomed :)
