A falloutNV feature I'd love to see in Skyrim.

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:32 am

I think the whole dynamic of wearing a factions outfit is actually noticed by other NPC's and even fooling the faction is a must.
I'm sick of not being able to don some legion armor and waltz into one of their towers without hassle.

I thought that was a great feature and would love to see it in Skyrim, maybe a higher sneak makes it harder for the NPC to see through your disguise.

That is one of the very few things that I actually liked about Fallout: New Vegas. And I think that that would be a wonderful feature to add into Skyrim.

You really didn't like Fallout NV? I thought it was one of the best games in a while.

I also thought NV was great, just thought it was strange that the beat up looking Hunting Rifle did more damage per shot then the Sniper Rifle.

Hell yes. I hope Skyrim will have the types of cross-faction dynamics that NV had and the disguising mechanic was just awesome.

I can think of so many times in TES where this would have been so wonderful.

Put up a simple yes or no poll and lets see if this is another unanimous vote like knocking.

Yes, it would give more options of stealth also.

I understand that putting on the armour makes you temporarily part of a certain faction but in TES (not knocking your idea) how would it work?

Maybe Bandit clans could have different armours or something but there are problems associated with this as well.

I wouldn't mind it though, they would have to get rid of the message that pops up every time you put it on, and put it as one that goes in the top left hand corner

Good point OP.
I would like to see more of a faction recognition as well. It would be neat if say you were in the Mages Guild and when you walked around towns with your Robe on, NPC fighters might comment or drop insults towards you, and vice versa. Even comments by townpeople towards certain outfits would be nice."Eek, he`s wearing a Necromancer robe" kind of thing.

Well in NV it only works on factions with a set 'uniform', I'd expect it to be the same if it's in Skyrim. Also, if this is in, and I would love to have it, I hope it's scripted so you have to wear a certain percentage of the outfit for it to work, not just the cuirass as the mods for this stuff in Oblivion are. Also, I agree that the message needs to go, maybe just a hud icon for which faction you are currently dressed as, or just an icon in the inventory.

I really don't want to see it in Skyrim. At least not in the same way. There shouldnt be anyone that can spot you unless you speak to them. It doesnt make sense.

As long as people stop attacking you if you take it off and yield to them. I don't really see Skyrim as being strictly faction vs faction, if you wear an enemies armor, the citizens should hate you, but not try to kill you. Other than that, good idea. That was something that was really good about New Vegas, but also very annoying at times.

I disagree. First off, how can you tell in TES? People often complain that they can just wear the Dark Brotherhood outfit in public with no repercussions, but then, who really knows what the Dark Brotherhood dresses like? To the average citizen you're just a guy/girl in dark leather armor. Big deal. Oblivion DID have acknowledgment of Necromancer robes in the Mages Guild though, and it did it in a way that I liked.

For example, I love the way the Legion armor in FONV looked like, but I couldn't wear it ANYWHERE except Legion camps. It was frustrating.

Most groups and people don't have uniforms in Tamriel and I'd like to keep it that way, for the most part. Enough so that there shouldn't need to be this big disguise mechanic necessary.

Given that there are nine Holds in Skyrim, and that there is a civil war, that could very easily equate nine separate factions. If they're as organized as the Imperial Legion or the city guards, then they'd probably have uniforms of some sort. Even the guards in Morrowind had uniforms. So I could see it being implemented in Skyrim and might be a lot of fun. Maybe if you tick off one hold, you'll have to walk around disguised while in their lands.
