Falmer!

Post » Sat Sep 03, 2011 2:09 am

This is possibly just a complete rumor (It probably is but idk) But a person said they found a group of creatures in some dark caves in Skyrim that were named Falmer and resembled a blueish white goblin. Just like the rieklings in Morrowind. So if its true AWESOME!

It's true, it was mentioned in a preview, too.

I hear they're really short with blue skin and they all wear white caps. And only one is female, with blonde hair.

But seriously, it was confirmed by Rock Paper Shotgun:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/01/skyrim-preview/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rockpapershotgun%2Fsteam+%28Rock%2C+Paper%2C+Shotgun%3A+Steam+RSS%29

As the fight moves on we face Falmer, “twisted, evil creatures that dwell in Skyrim’s deepest reaches” and which basically look like goblins wearing spider’s faces as helmets, we move more into melee.

I'll admit that that does fit the pics from the mystery-pics threads that people though might be the Falmer.

I think out of all the enemies announced, the Falmer's are the ones I'm most interested since they seem so cool.^_^

[censored], it doesn't sound like they're very sentient anymore. Maybe capable of language or at least culture, but goblins had culture too. I was really hoping for a quest that would allow you to either help a lost tribe of isolationist Falmer get back on their feet, or exterminate them. I guess there's still hope, maybe some Falmer won't be immediately hostile. Maybe there's that one Falmer outpost guardsman that hesitates before he fires an arrow at you and unintentionally sparks a dialogue.

I think you are reading lore waaaaay too literally. First of all, it has never been confirmed if Falmer actually exist like think they did back in the human invasions. Second of all, lore specifically states that the only appearance of Falmer in common folklore is as evil beings that prey on children, and they are basically that: something to scare off children. Thats how lore has always been. Nothing is confirmed, everything is pure conjecture, theorizing, and sometimes, cultural bias (for example, Tsaesci are NoT snakes).

looking like Goblins is the bit I don'e the sound of. Looking like Elves is what I wanted to hear.

I want the Falmer and Reikling to be two separate enemies. One tall, Elven looking and the same people as the ice warriors of previous games and the other small, part of the goblin family and riding on boars

Indeed Falmer should be the Elven equivalent of a Nord; Tall, deadly, born for winter

Are we 100% sure these are Falmer we are talking about? Rieklings are known to be short and blue skinned, the Falmer are similar in many ways to other Elven species, according to research and books in Morrowind. They may have had blue skin but they were not short.

Just because something doesnt like you & attacks on sight doesn't mean its not sentient.

Hopefully Skyrim will supply us with new lore on the Falmer instead of just using them as a Goblin substitute. I hope we learn more about their decline from a sentient race to goblin-like savages.

Mmmm, thinking about it now, I wonder what made them into goblin-like savages as well. It would be nice to have a quest to discover what happen to them when they lost the war for skyrim long ago.^_^

Well I just assumed because the OP mentioned Rieklings who are mistakenly believed to be the remnants of the Falmer.

In shadowkey, which is based during Arena (like a decade before oblivion) you see a Falmer village, the inhabitants of which are friendly (at least before some odd dialogue.)

and it is conjecture to say that tsaesci aren't snakes; every source we have of them describes them as such and it has been confirmed by developers that the akaviri encountered in the Pale Pass quest weren't Tsasci, they were akaviri men.
