Falmer - The new Dwemer

Post » Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:33 pm

Do you think the Falmer (snow elves) will take on the role in Skyrim that the Ayleids and Dwemer played in previous games?

I meant filling the role of extinct race, not that they will actually be the Dwemer (obviously)

shouldnt the Falmer AND the Dwemer be?
not just because Dwemer would be awesome in the new graphics, but why should modern provinces and borders define ancient ones, surely the Dwemer were wide spread enough to be in Skyrim too, they were in High Rock right? its inbetween

I think it would be sweet. I've always thought it'd be cool to have one or a few Falmer (since legend has it via Bloodmoon that they've been extinct or not distinguishable as their own race through mingling with other races and being exterminated.). I kind of made one in Oblivion based off of an Altmer. Always thought it would be cool. Especially in Skyrim... maybe someone important? Or elusive? Just a thought.

Snow elves you say?

I think the Dwarves will be taking that role. Pretty sure Todd said that on an interview with Game Informer...

Maybe some outposts on the borders of Morrowind, but the Dwemer weren't really established in Skyrim, I don't know any evidence of Dwemer in High Rock, just artifacts

No. Seeing as we have Dwemer in Skyrim, it would be hard for Falmer to replace them this late in the games development. :P Though I would not be surprised if there was at least one dungeon related to the Falmer, a quest or two, and some items. We may even see some again!

I don't think the Dwemer were the dominant force in Skyrim

I never said they were, and you're right, they weren't. The Aldmer, then Falmer, were the dominant force in Skyrim until the Nords defeated them.

No, I think the Dwemer will fill the role the Dwemer played in previous games. It's not Falmer ruins that are already confirmed to have humans occupying them as cities and building on to them, but http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1160294-markarth-side-a-dwemer-city/ ruins, after all.

There can't be more than about ten to twenty ruins in the whole of Skyrim though

That's fine. There were 20some in Vvardenfell, so having about 10-20 in the whole of Skyrim would make sense since the Dwemer only passed through Skyrim.

That's enough for them to serve the purpose of "long-vanished mysterious race."

We already know we'll see some Dwemer things in Skyrim, the Sounds of Skyrim video even has a bit involving a centurion sphere in it. But that doesn't mean Falmer can't also play a similar role, it's okay to have more than one ancient civilization play a role in you're provinces history, especially since Dwemer have already been explored pretty well in past games, and I don't expect to learn many new things about them we didn't see in past games. Lore from past games might be revisted, certainly, maybe we'll get some new details focusing on the Dwemer in Skyrim in particular,

While we'll certainly see Dwemer ruins in Skyrim, I don't see them playing a major role in any new lore we might get in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if the main reason Bethesda decided to include Dwemer is because people liked them in Morrowind, and Bethesda thought the fans would enjoy seeing them again, rather than for the sake of expanding on the lore related to them.

Haha... did the forums just have a collective brain fart? We already have confirmation that the Dwemer are in Skyrim, and not just along the Morrowind/Skryim and Hammerfell/Skyrim borders. We get them a little all over.

Who says we can't have both? Maybe even an Ayleid ruin near the Cyrodiil border too. It doesn't make sense that the ancient kingdoms' borders would be the same as the present day ones to me.
