Fame in Elder Scrolls

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 3:39 am

one thing I hated in Oblivion was being The Arch Mage, Arena Champion, Fighter's Guild Master, and The Dark Brotherhood yet, outside of my guild, I was just regular ol' me again
I want random fans conning up to me, telling me how they won a fortune betting on me in The Arena. magicians of the wilderness giving me praise (or putting orthodox magic down) and possiblly asking my assistance for some hard task. I want recognition from mercenaries, possibly certain guards letting me sly on small crimes for The Guild's help with some assignment he was on. etc

TheElderScrolls made a thread about gaurds having reason- if I'm a known murderer/expert fighter, a single gaurd should fear me. either not approaching me until he has called for help, or hesitation with showing force (with the dialogue option to convince him to turn the other way if my speech is high enough)

Skyrim, let's get some recognition of in this!

I support fame and infamy having a strong influence on actions of NPCs in the game. If I slay a dragon and save an entire village, I should ideally become a hero in the eyes of the village. Whether it's just greeting me, offering gifts, asking for training, or even erecting a statue, we should visually see our choices come to life.

With Radiant story and the way they have improved AI, this might actually happen. I'm pretty sure it said in GI, people react to you for what you're known for.

I kinda hate all the fame.

Maybe I have an inferiority complex or something.

I prefer to be anonymous.

Hm, yes, thie will certainly be good. Being a somebody in a faction then being a regular civillian outside of it would seem odd. Nice idea OP.

it doesn't really matter, but an inferiority complex would result in the opposite. it's entirely more likely I have one by making a thread like this

I think this is an awesome idea and I'm sure they have it in the game to some degree.

I don't mind having a little notoriety, but it is really annoying when people automatically know about all of the things I've done although there is no way they could.

This goes double for my infamy, especially if I never got caught for a crime.

I hope if this is done there would be a way to balance out or choose how you would be recognized. If your the Fighter Guild master but a dark brotherhood listener would be very conflicting views. Would be nice to be recognized for status though.

well, when it comes to The Brotherhood (and theives guild), with it being a shadow organization, no one should know...but it would be awesome if you were shopping and the shop keeper said "pssst! I know who you are. I've called to the nightmother myself...let's just say my husband was an ass and it's a lot more profitable running this shop by myself. here, have a 20% discount on all items!"

@Tlantl - well getting caught for a small crime or two shouldn't be a huge deal. but if you were known to sneak into houses, murder its owners, steal their valuables, AND be spotted by a gaurd..... well it's only natural that people would start to talk ;)

I don't like the fame/infamy system. I actually think a reputation system like in New Vegas would work a lot better. That way the NPC's will all feel differently about you depending on what guilds you're in and how they feel about those guilds as opposed to just knowing you're famous. Mercenaries may hate you because you put them out of business in the fighters guild, etc. I think that a reputation system should be combined with the individual cities. Let's say you are the champion of the Arena and that is located in one city... well people may recognize you as such in that city... but in another city all the way across the map, you're more likely to be recognized for being a prominent member of their Mage's guild. That way not everyone will recognize you for every single thing you've done.
