Jared was timidly watching from the portal. His vision was still blurred a bit, but he could identify most of them by their features. The faces were lost to him, but finally his vision returned. He approached the group wondering what was down here. He looked at the chests but they were mostly open except a small black chest. It's corners were covered in curving, black, twisted metal. It seemed all but untouched. The black finish was glossy and shined in the torchlight of the cavern. A cavern? How peculiar. This must go on through the mountain. Which most likely means that there will be treasures for me to find along the way. Jared thought. He headed towards the black box, touching the cold metal handle. He pulled on the box lid, but it refused to budge. He ignored the failed attempt and used his shortsword for leverage and stamped down on it with all his might. With a loud crack, the lid snapped open, flew all the way back, hit the ice, and bounced back hitting Jared's foot. Yelping in pain, Jared clutched his foot while hopping haphazardly around a few scattered chests. As the pain receded, he retrieved his shortsword and peered inside the box.
There was nothing but a few amulets and a ring. All that pain and work just for some trinkets? What a waste. Jared thought disheartened. He scooped up all the jewelry to inspect it. Two were especially interesting. They were as black as the box, but they were shiny as well. One was the only ring and it pulsated in his hands. They were both colder to the touch than the rest of the jewelry. The other was a chain necklace with one large oval chain with a thin, grey bar intersecting the top and bottom of the large link. Jared stuffed all the other loot in his pockets and put on the black jewelry. They were cold against his skin, but Jared ignored the sensation for the moment.
