OOC--I started composing this before I saw DAGH's last post.
Jeff Torres
"Sir, it's a really long story but to keep the story short, hes an ally to the NCR!", Reed exclaimed, then briefly described how Sun had assisted them in driving the Legion out of Nipton.
"Very well, Ranger Reed.", said Captain Ross. "If you're willing to vouch for him, that's good enough for me. But I would..." Reed did not finish his sentence as a private ran up to him and saluted.
"Begging the Captain's pardon, ", the private said. "but we've got a situation at the West side of town. A stranger just came up to the sentry on the road and asked to speak to the Commanding Officer. Says he's a Brotherhood Paladin and had important news for us. Sarge told me to find you and ask you to come question him."
"First a mutant and now the Brotherhood...what next?", sighed Captain Ross. "Did he give a name, private?"
"Torres, sir.", said the private.
"I've heard the name...let's go private.", said Ross. "Why don't you come along, Ranger. I'd like to get your read on him."
"Certainly, Captain", said Reed, pointedly looking over at the tents where he had noticed Sun was vainly trying to hide long enough for Ross to notice then turning his head back to face him. "But it's probably best to bring him to the CP and question him there. We aren't shooting at each other anymore, but we aren't exactly friends so no Brother is going to walk in here without a damn good reason. Whatever his news is, it isn't going to be good. "
"Agreed.", said Ross grimly, also noting Sun's interest in thier conversation. We'll bring him to the CP and talk to him there. Private, find the other Rangers and request thier presence in the CP at thier earliest convenience." Ross and Reed then walked to the West checkpoint to find the Sergeant and two men nervously watching over the stranger.
After a short conversation Captain Ross decided that Torres was probably who he said he was. Ross dismissed the Sergeant and the other men to return to thier duties, and he and Reed escorted Torres to the CP that had been set up in a house near the Town Hall. Once inside, Torres unslung the .357 lever action and his Gauss rifle and propped them up against the wall with his larger pack, then placed the smaller pack...which Ross noticed was stained with what appeared to be dried blood...on the dining room table and sat down.
"There is a handgun and a stick of dynamite inside the bag", said Torres, pushing the bag towards Ross. "Would you mind handing me the map cases and papers inside?".
Ross opened the bag, and removed the bundle of papers, and two map cases, then handed them to Torres. He then pushed the bag towards Ranger Reed, who looked inside. Reed found, as Torres had said, a silenced 12.7mm pistol and a stick of dynamite which had it's fuze yanked out. He also saw a necklace with a Legion coin on it and pulled it out. It was a Legion Denarius coin, a old one with Caesar's image on it. But rather than the silver that the Legion minted the Denarius out of, this coin was bronze. Reed, like any Veteran Ranger, knew immediately what it was.
"The Mark of Caesar.", said Reed, holding it up so both Torres and Ross could see it. "Where, may I ask, did you get this, Paladin Torres? I won't insult your intelligence by accusing you of being it's rightful owner, given your cavalier treatment of it."
"I'd be pleased to tell you all about it.", chuckled Torres. "It's owner is about 500 meters East of here. I killed him and his two associates, you may have heard the commotion." Both Ross and Reed nodded, several pistol shots and a small explosion were heard about two hours ago. Ross had planned to have a sweep done once the sun was up to investigate it. Torres then unfolded the map he had taken off the Frumentarii and spread it on the table. "What I've come to tell you is basically this. Tomorrow, the Legion will launch a major offensive to take Mojave Outpost, cutting the Mojave off from the NCR so they can besiege Primm. The first wave.....four Contubernia, or around 30 men...will hit Nipton at Dawn tomorrow. Thier goal is to take Nipton and clear a path to the Nipton rest area so no one sees the second wave until it is too late. The second wave, a full Century, will move up about 12 hours later and try to take Mojave Station with a night assault. If that succeeds they will send more troops up the rail line East of here and try to get around Primm and cut it off. They will probably hit Novac as well, though that part of the plan wasn't entrusted to the donors of these documents. The attack was moved up two days due to Nipton falling to the NCR. If you have any questions about thier plan, I'd like to answer those first, then I would like to outline the ways I can be of assistance to you, and the NCR, to stop them."
