Familiar Landmarks

Post » Mon Nov 29, 2010 3:06 am

When I first played FO3 one of the things I loved was seeing those famous landmarks like the Washington Monument, the White House, and the Lincoln Memorial.
A long time ago I watched the interview that said there wouldn't be landmarks such as those due to the fact that Fallout is kind of an alternate universe or whatever he called it.
I was dissapointed but still excited for the game itself. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on that subject? How did you feel about it?

The Hoover Dam? That's a considerable landmark in my opinion.

Personally I was hoping for a Ceaser's Palace acts as a main HQ for the CL but it wouldn't really work out since NCR are gaurding it. Maybe they'll ust bring back some old 50s buildings.

At least we still have thake palm trees

Yep. Having been there and driven over that one, it is indeed kinda hard to miss.

There's not as many landmarks in Las Vegas as there are in DC so....I doubt there will be anything as impressive as the washington monument. However, The Hoover Dam is going to be epic, as stated above.

I've been sitting fooling with Google Maps for a few minutes, and it's really looking like Hoover Dam is about all there is, at least in terms of major landmarks with a chance of being internationally known. Which sort of gibes with my 30-ish year old memories of having been out there- outside of Hoover and Vegas, it tends to be "pick a direction, and look at all the desert."

Aside from smaller "more local" things like the in-game Dinky the Dinosaur, anyway- and actually the number of those sorts of things is almost staggering once you get off the Interstates and scout around. :)

I bet the CL base will be an interesting landmark (IRL or fictional) I keep imagining a football stadium converted into a base/Colosseum-fortress thing.

Does this mean we can be attacked in water? I hope so.

Ouch, man...given the http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/nevada/las-vegas/hoover-dam from the dam thickening toward the base, that'd be one long painful slide...until you were GLAD to hit that sudden stop at the bottom.

I hope not, unless we can fight in water(or swim faster than said monsters). Of course mutated water creatures are always cool. Admit it, every time a horde of Mirelurk Hunters killed you, you couldn't help but admire how cool they are.

I hope whoever controls the dam will give us a quest to stop the water-monsters. Mabey somebody should make a hoover dam general discussion thread, because thats what this seems to be becoming.

What else is there in that desert but the Hoover Dam and Las Vegas?

They already got both of those covered.

I'd love to see the Bazooka Circus clown. He doesn't exist, but I'd still like to see him.

Regarding landmarks that would actually be in, (to stay on this topic) I can't think of any casinos or immediate areas outside Vegas that would fit. The airport maybe? This will be one thing I'll miss from F3. Having been to DC often, it was cool to see the places I had been previously. Can't see anywhere in Vegas that would have that.
