Families and Relations?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 8:46 am

I've always kinda-sorta liked the idea of being able to "build" a family in games and I think it would add to the experience (maybe not a great deal but at least a little bit) of running around Skyrim and meeting new people. Of course, I'm not a big fan of children either, so what I'm asking/looking for is basically a wife/husband. It seems that the first thing people think of when you say "relationship in videogames" is six, most likely due to Fables fix on it. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm not asking "Do you want six or not?" I'm just simply asking if you'd like a partner of sorts. Maybe something similar to Mass Effects take on romances... but thinking about that now doesn't really make much since seeing as though you're not trapped in a space ship together. I guess the simplest way (and bluntest way) to word this is would you like to be able to get married? I'm thinking I would ... maybe?

HOWEVER! I would not want this option/these options to be available if they weren't LGBT friendly. It's not fair to leave out a significant amount of peoples wants/needs simply because they don't fall into the majority of the population. If we can't have it, why should you be able to?

I don't know. I just think that it would be nice to have the option there for you if you wanted it. Any one else share this thought?

Not to be a total doosh but mate this topic has been debated in this forum and there are a few threads already that you could add too. My bet is if any moderators are around it'll get squished soon. Sorry

Nah, I'd say that's more because of Bioware RPGs.

Anyways, while I can understand the appeal, personally I don't want it.
The TES games are adventures to me; they shouldn't be domestic.
(Incidentally, they're LONE adventures, which is why I dislike the thought of multiplayer and companions. Solitary hero sort of thing).

I've looked this over three times and can't figure out what it means. Please clarify.

Really? Relative to the sheer volume of other repeat topics this is fairly safe. My bet Is it wont get squished. Winner gets a cookie?

Antsy to the OP, no I don't want family in game.

OP means that homosixual relationships should be possible, as it would be unfair to the people of that orientation to exclude them.

One. It would take ridiculously long to implement. Two genders Ten races, two with completely alien mindsets and several with bizarre cultures. Making a good relationship with those materials would be mindbogglingly time-consuming.
Two. If it was implemented it would probably be unconvincing. Even Bioware, masters of writing, have difficulty making it seem worthwhile except for a short tumble between the linens, with an extremely limited amount of characters. Crafting romance for two genders of ten races in a world inhabited by hundreds of characters would be near impossible to make feel anything but shallow.

All you have to do is say "similar to Fable" and you are instantly inviting a "no" from most people.

I don't want Fable, I want TES.

Wow I like cookies too, while I munch out, why not hit the search button. I just did, simple "relationships" search, hmm, just a few returns. Oooops, sorry, took the last cookie.

Oh yeah, didn't even think of that. There's no way they could make good, free romance out of a world with a thousand character to interact with.
The development of a relationship is a delicate and precise thing; they couldn't make it work with any random NPC in a free-form sandbox world.

Thanks. (In this day and age that should not have to be said.)

I understand people's desire for relationships and realism, but for me it's all about a coherent rpg/adventure experience in TES spirit.

Optional.

Optional.

What makes TES so great is that there are many optionals in there.
I think I never actually enchanted something myself in Morrowind, but lots of other people can't play it without it so to speak.

I bet you could build great quests from the perspective of romance, family ties etc...

Bunch on necromancers fighting the mages guild ---> don't care about the one-sided politics of the guild.
They abduct your wife and turned her into a zombie ---> okay, now I do care.

It's not really a question whether if it's in there or not, but how well they do implement it from the perspective of the player.
That's why I don't like the family stuff in Fable, because it's so disconnected from the rest of the game and the actual story.

Adding relationships would take away from devs making the adventure which is what I'm here for.
Having any kind of relationship beyond fallout's style would go against my 'man with no name' style.
Having a permanent partner that you have to give flowers and take bowling? No.

First you need to care about your wife.

I know what you are aiming at, but what if they took your Fable wife away, would you care?

If it is implemented well i.e. does not feel out of place and it is more than a gimmick then fine.

I would rather they focussed on other things but I wouldn't complain.
