Familys

Post » Mon Jan 17, 2011 8:23 am

children have been confirmed and im pritty sure i read somewhere that NPC's will flirt with you if they like you, what do you all think about having relationships or even getting married and having kids. Just to make it clear im not talking about putting six in the game, but just the ability to have a family. But if you have a family there should also be risks, like if you live in a city there is the chance that a dragon could kill your family, or just burn down your house, or any enemys you create could kidnap your offspring. Would add a little realism to the game and also make the game more personal. You could also have an affair, or have multiple familys. familys will also generate food from garden and a small amount of extra money that you could collect weekly, but if you take it all it affects the amount of wealth the family has. e.g. take the money and they dress in rags and work all day, leave the money and over time they get very rich and can upgrade the house until they become nobility.

You would also have to provide for your family, but that could be done by having a small percentage of any money you earn being sent to the family, or your spouce could work so you wouldn't have to send any of your money anywhere. The family would be completly optional for all those who wouldnt want one.

Having a child would be the new adoring fan, he can follow you around everywhere or you can tell him to stay at home.

I think you just tried to describe a Fable 4.

Some flirting which doesn't really lead anywhere is enough for me.

I have thought about this before. And I do really like the idea of having a family in Skyrim. Everything you're describing is Just like Fable; which isn't a bad thing. They did a good job on the family aspect.

It also makes the game more personalized IMO.

I wouldn't mind the content being available. Would add a new dynamic of game play. Probably something I would take up after I finished the main part of the game to extend the life of the game. I certainly wouldn't consider it something essential though, but relationships on the whole (friends, lovers, spouses, rivals, arch-enemies, etc.) is the one thing really missing from TES games to give it that extra level of emotional investment.

With the restriction of a set release date and the constant oversight of executives zealously protecting their bonuses, pretty much every element that's added to the game results in another element that's removed. I don't have any particular problem with any of this - I'm not much interested in it, but it doesn't bother me either - but it's far, FAR down on the list of things I want to see in the game, so including it would almost certainly mean the elimination of something I value more. For that reason, I'd vote for a bit of flirting (little more, really, than a dialogue option), but that's it.

It also adds a sense of humanity if a dragon attacks the city you're family resides in is attacked then , if you became attached to those characters you will have strong feelings and is useful as a plot device, not in the sense that you HAVE to have a family member to do the main story for Bethesda but it adds to the games through the fact that you realise that the dragons are devastating Skyrim and that the Province's people are truly being made helpless and reduced to their last legs, which encourages you to hurry with the story and get on with it to aid the nords.
So in summary yeah thumbs up!

The main idea in Skyrim is to be a lonely guy that is just trying to save the world, or at least Skyrim. Not to worry about some dragon vaporizing your child and wife...

I think being able to "court" someone of the opposite six (or same if you go that way lol) and eventually having them live in your house would be kinda cool. They'd have daily packages they do and such (like go to the market, eat, sleep etc).....but with different dialogues and such.

Personally I think it'd be neat.

How I would approach this subject depends largely on what elements are shipped with the game.

Currently, for the characters evolving in my thoughts, in-depth relationships would be enough. I don't see either of my characters getting married and having children in Skyrim. I won't object to deeper family ties, for others who may want it, however.

If there are in-depth relationships in the game, I hope they are well thought out and not just silly. I certainly hope there will be, at least, some fun, flirtatious exchanges.

I don't believe any comments we make in this thread will have any impact on the final game product. It is sometimes entertaining, though, to see how others think on certain game issues, such as the topic of this thread.

Edit: Voted for "just the one." I wonder what Emma might do?

I voted 'Just a Boyfriend/Girlfriend' (though that should really include marriage. Marriage =/= Children). Character, at least in game is not the strong suit of Bethesda. It is not a weakness mind you, but adding family to any large extent would likely just add a vapid system that adds little to the game. On the other hand, including the base system, however weak gives modders more to work with and from there we could have some really really fantastic mods.

Voted yes for flirting. Seing as there are going to be a few companionish people I think these would be the main targets for this kind of thing.

Stop exaggerating, there aren't millions of threads in the entire forum.

There are a bunch though...

Someday I hope Bethesda and Bioware could merge together and make the most epic roleplaying game ever made.

If there are any in-depth companions, with personalities and backgrounds, then maybe, if you have a really good relationship you should be able to have "relations" :hubbahubba: with her/him, but no families/kids. At least i don't want them.

I vote yes it woudl be a pretty good system, add MORE Roleplaying aspect, add gameplay hours, and sounds pretty neat.

Then train my son until he's six and sign him up in the arena for some :toughninja:
