Famitsu (highly respected Japanese gaming mag) gives Skyrim

Wow, what a milestone. For those who don't know, Famitsu is an incredibly highly respected gaming magazine in Japan, perhaps the most "esteemed" gaming magazine in the world. They have handed out only 16 other perfect scores in over 20 years of publication, and Skyrim is the first non-Japanese game to ever get one.

Wow!

Edit: By the way, the reason this review is so late is because the Japanese release is coming up shortly.

Another example of Famitsu's complete lack of credibility.

hahahahaha, the Japanese are way more critical when it comes to evaluating games, not to mention the fact that Famitsu isn't on the payroll of the American gaming coalition.

I guess haters are gonna hate anyway though.

It's a noteworthy accolade, for sure. But I trust reviews for games about as much as I trust in Roger Ebert critiquing movies. Which is to say, not much. Not bashing the game. I'm really enjoying it but the opinion of a critic is going to have little bearing on whether or not I play a game or watch a movie

Yeah no. Maybe Japan likes the magazine but that doesnt mean they know shtuff. Never even really heard of them.

Who cares what magazine or game reviewer gave what score to what game. If you like the game hoorah, if you dont, thats cool as well. Screw reviewers who (alot of the times) just get paid to give a certain score. There is only one source of information you can truly rely on and thats your own noodle. (At least in something as opinionated as "Whether a game is good or not.")

Hmm, kinda of weird.

But then again, japs prefer games where you just mash the same button over and over, and that's what TES has become.

That's all well and good but it bears mentioning that in Japan Famitsu is synonymous with gaming, they are a 25 year old gaming magazine and have significant influence on the worldwide games industry and how it perceives games, when Famitsu gives a game a 40/40, Japanese developers drop what they are doing and take notice.

This isn't your typical Xbox magazine or even PC gamer, its much older and much more influential, not to mention that Skyrim is the FIRST western-made game to ever get that score there. Again, in 25 years of game reviews across every platform ever released. Famitsu is essentially saying that Skyrim is the best western game they've ever played since the inception of video gaming.

Famitsu has no vested interest in Skyrim or Bethesda nor any American made game because they aren't getting paid by the Gaming Coalition of America.

The Famitsu review as well as most of the Russian review sites have no monetary interests in the game and yet they are all giving it high scores and none of these sites have ever given perfect scores to any American game, EVER!

I don't know how far your head would need to be up your ass to call Skyrim is a perfect game.

Or Nintendogs. Which also got perfect score in Famitsu. Does that even qualify as a videogame?

[Edit]Ah yes, and the American Gaming Coalition - no comment. Go back to Fox News, kids.

You sure like to talk about this supposedly-existant American Gaming Coalition.

No game ever deserves a perfect score. Perfect would mean that it could never be improved whatsoever. Basically such a game would have to feel exactly like reality, with enough content to keep playing a whole lifetime, and all of it highly entertaining. Never gonna happen.

While I don't doubt the merits of Skyrim, Famitus reviews of JPRGs have been called into question multiple time.

But I never expected them to give 40/40 to an western made RPG. Famitsu global score is given by for different reviewers who play the game. Each one can give a 0-10 score and the result will be a simple sum of the scores. Has Skyrim been tested on a Xbox 360? That would partially explain such a high score, as the reviewers assigned to the Xbox 360 are usually more open to western games.

Its true, the Italians control it and have controlled the gaming coalition since the first wap stepped off a boat in this country. They get money for any entertainment product produced in this country, doesn't matter if its a deck of cards or a video game that was made in America, the Italians get money for it.

Yeah this giant boner you have for this magazine doesnt mean its important. Famitsu doesnt speak for the entire gaming community, and until they do they are just an opinion based magazine. No more reliable then Gamefaqs or IGN or any of those sites. They say their opinion and no matter how highly its held its just that, someone elses opinion. And the day I let someone elses opinion change the way I think about something is the day I blow my brains out. I can think for myself, thank you very much.

So like I said, "Hoorah." they gave the game a great score, that doesnt mean its the best blah de blah de blah. It means some Japanese magazine likes it, end story. Not pop the champagne the troops are coming home type excitement or anything.

TL;DL version: Its some dumb magazine, who cares?

naa wouldnt say that...perfect means it is exceptional and has very few flaws in gameplay/story/redline/fun for the time it is being released... i mean when you get an A in school it also doesnt mean your work was perfect and couldnt have been better in any way...

I'm pretty sure that perfect means "withour fault or flaw".

So, you're wrong.

I agree with this also, which is why im surprised the Japanese would give this game a perfect score because they are usually much tougher critics than their American counterparts.

You know you can never satisfy some people. I love the story, I love the characters, I love the land, I love the combat, I love the leveling system, I love ....etc.

To me that is perfect. To you, perfect means ugh oh, low level dragons are too easy.....game is broken !

Grow up.
