[WIPz] Famous Battles of Cyrodiil Thread III

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:05 pm

People place a 'z' at the end of things because otherwise you wouldn't be able to search for released mods. For example, typing REL in the search function won't work because the things you're searching for need to be at least four characters, hence the added z.

RELz: Release
WIPz: Work in progress
Beta: Beta
Alpha: Alpha
IDEA: Idea
REQz: Request

...and so on.

Oh that makes a lot more sense now, why didn't I see that before...?

Cool, gonna try it out, I am assume you are planning a PES release too? It only gets a fraction of the traffic Nexus does but it has overall a better community.

EDIT: Btw, since all of our battles will get merged together in the end, should I just submit the finished battle to you starting with when you first arrive on the battlefield until when you die, because I know you are planning some way to explain why you are fighting all of these battles.

EDIT2: Love the modelers house, nice mini city with working people, gonna go play some more in a minute, my first run through got interrupted prematurely, be back in a while.

Ok, I just played through it, heres what I have to say. (Possible spoilers for those who have yet to play it).

Only a couple "bugs" I noticed which aren't really much of bugs at all. My game is missing some meshes and textures from the Breton and Nord armors, is anyone else having this same issue? Other than that, the doors to the last room cut through the wall a little, nothing a small amount of repositioning won't fix, and for some reason whenever someone is killed from either side the Legion Guards start yelling "murder!". I have OBSE which makes the blank dialogue, but its still a little too short for my taste, we should probably find or include a longer silent file. All I have to say on that matter. I also recommend you block rumors and persuasion for the inovolved characters, that was a little strange.

The battle itself looks good, I played on easy with a god character which was a little short for my taste, but I imagine the fights are a little tougher on harder levels (with svckier characters). An OOO patch with static NPCs that change based on what difficulty you choose would be cool. I wasn't feeling the context of the battle much, a little explaination from Talos or from a comrade would be nice, or maybe a speech before you rush into battle. I understand that he thinks you are someone else, thats a nice touch, makes sense when you think about it though. I find that it doesn't make sense that you must lead them into battle but, really its your choice, and I know this isn't final or anything.

I thought you did a nice job on the modelers house (as FPS hungry as it may be), I liked the little city with little people, its fun to kill them and watch them swarm you. :)

So I like what I'm seeing so far, all I felt it lacked was a little bit of background information, and those couple little bugs I mentioned, overall it ran fine and I really liked it! Good job!

roknroll4: Great!

To answer you questions: PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME DO ANY MORE SPEECHES! AUGH!!! I've wasted too much sleep scripting them. So the one long speech will be it.

And the bugs are going to be fixed with the new update I'm releasing. Also, make sure all the folders for the meshes and textures are right.

I'm pretty sure the all of the folders are right... There shouldn't be any issue, I think it has something to do with the fact that I either have Vista or Steam, because one of the two causes that to happen a lot. I may have to Nifskope them.

Kroot you should definitely make a [DEMO] thread or something along those lines, right now we have very few followers who will actually play this, we need to attract attention, you should also try PES, new mods there get a lot of attention because they are put into the Newest Mods list (1-10) that appears on the home page. Just some pointers to get work up and running again, I know you've been working but we need some people to do other battles, I believe there are three left to fill and Kvatch which will be a combined effort, am I correct?

EDIT: Not sure why I quoted here... Thanks for playing!

EDIT2: Happened to notice it is up on PES now, cool!

Rokknroll4: I've already created a demo thread. Apparently, there's been only one offer for voice acting to date.

Meshes and Textures: I honestly don't know what's wrong. Everything looks fine; all the file paths are correct. You may have to attach the textures to the meshes. (There's a tutorial for this somewhere on the web). Otherwise, I really have no idea what's wrong.

Oh, I didn't know there was a thread, I suppose I'll try to find it and bump it.

Just wanted to reiterate my other post from the demo thread. This mod has been officially cancelled. Or at least postponed. It may start up again later, but for now, this mod has been put to rest.

Well I have just read through all the threads conserning this mod, and I was realy realy impressed by the depth of it.

And then :ooo: ITS BEEN PUT ON HOLD!! Im confused, why did you stop? is it because of there arent any modders that want to help?

Well I could help you fine fellows with that, I am submiting myself to you, I cant script or anything like that (takes to much time, and I havnt got much to begin with) but I love making npcs, and writing backgrounds (im a writer you see, well.... ive started my first book) I could write conversations inbetween characters and stuff like that, I can also make buildings and places and stuff, I DONT make textures or meshes.

I always count on the deepest details on characters, exspcialy on the important ones that people will remeber.

So if you might think about this and maybe carry on with this great Mod.
just please please please carry on.

Yours sincerly Menion Rookwood (thats not my real name by the way ;)

Uh...I am really glad you're so into it Menion Rookwood.

Let me explain why we stopped this project. Each famous battle took way too much planning, building, and scripting to do. As time progressed, we placed our hopes on two things.

1. A demo release that would spark a wave of modders to come to our mod.

2. A sudden influx of interest from the community that would land us with at least two or three more eager modders.

We chose the first option, and prayed. Unfortunately, two major problems occured. First, two of our modders left us, minimizing the team to three. Then one of our battle builders respectfully resigned. When we finally got to the demo release, it was just two of us.

And then the demo release attracted little attention. Idk why, but I guess people didn't quite get the mod. Anyway, no new modders showed up, dooming our project. Rokknroll4 and I decided that the best course of action was to postpone further work on the mod until we could manage to bring about a release.

So in conclusion, we would love to reopen the project. We really would. The only problem is, even with Menion's help, we still would not be able to power through the project. Not to be rude or anything, but we would need at least one or two more modders in order to reconsider the mod.

So, thank you Menion, if you can somehow find a way to attract one or two more modders to the project, we would try our best to reopen the project. Until, I'm afriad the mod must remain on the shelf.

Thanks you again,

Kroot

Man, that svcks. It was ambitious, perhaps a little too much so, but the idea was golden. I really wish that I was a millionaire sometimes so I could pay for a group of modders to make some of sparks of ingenuity on this forum turn into a giant fire. Maybe some day in the future people will change their tune and help out, but for now I think a lot of us are disappointed. But ultimately, people can only do so much :(

Hey guys,

My Amusemant Park and Medieval London are terribly stagnant right now. They're are a few major roadblocks preventing me from going any farther on them.

But I have some good news to share about this mod. I just finished another playthrough of the Battle for Castle Kvatch, and I realized how truly great it would be to fight alongside Savlian Matius and the other Kvatch Guard in preventing the fall of Kvatch.

I'm not saying at all that I'm resurrecting the mod; all I'm saying is that I think I'll do a little work on this mod over the next few days... ;) ;)

Thanks,

Kroot

I can't believe this mod has never died, even after all these years.

It's official, for now, this mod is being resurrected.

Unfortunately, it came at a cost. It's just me at the moment, so I've cut out two of the planned battles to help ease the work load. As of now, I need to build two battles and put a finishing touch on another.

That's all for now, more news will come soon.

Thanks

Wow! I myself am surprised by the progress I've been able to make.

Uglulyx's Elsweyr battle was in much better condition than I expected. All I needed to do was clean up the scripts, and it worked perfectly! That means two finished battles, and two to go!

My next battle will be the Invasion of Akavir. Just beware, things are not always as they seem.

Thanks,

Kroot

A few updates on this mod. I've finally had some time to mod, and I've made a bit of progress.

First, I forgot to mention that the Invasion of Akavir was changed to Uriel III. See the first post for details.

Next, I've decided that since there are only four battles, I will add an optional fifth from the Red Diamond War. This will be one of the largest battles in the mod, but also the most spectacular; poorer graphics card users may simply choose to skip the battle with no penalty. I don't have too much information available on the battle, but I can say that you will be fighting trench-warfare style, so be prepared to use bows and magic as well as cold steel.

Thanks,

Kroot

Can't wait for this ^.^ just wish someone would include a wood elf "hunt" in which you fight along side hordes of shapeshifting woodelves becoming and changing between all types of different horrid shodowy creatures in a dense forest.

sean144800: Oh...when I first read your post, I thought you meant having the player hunt down the little buggers...darn.

But back to the mod.

I'm currently finishing Uriel Mantiarco's battle and working on the battle from the Red Diamond War. Let's talk about the latter.

Siege of Kogmenthist Castle: Relive perhaps the best known battle of the Red Diamond War. Queen Potema received word that her son, Uriel III was captured by the enemy forces. Dismissing the capitulation as minor, she turned to focus her attention on defeating the forces of Magnus. In a bold move, Potema decided to bypass the hills surrounding the ruined castle and instead advance through the nearby swamp to engage Magnus. A great battle took place, and Potema emerged victorious. Only then did she receive news of Uriel III's death...

You are a Legion Captain in the Imperial army. While Potema engages the main body of Magnus' forces, you are to hold the hills she previously bypassed and prevent the enemy from turning her flank. Beat back the encroaching Argonians and prevent them from overrunning the trenches of the Legion or its allies. When your ready, sound the charge and rush across a heavily mined no-man's land into enemy territory. Slaughter them in the name of the Empire!

Thanks,

Kroot
