Famous Voice actors!

Post » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:13 am

I reckon get in good voice actors - be they famous on-screen actors or not. Many good voice actors are famous in their own right, and I think it's worth paying for them. A good game with poor VA is one of my pet peeves.

If they get some really great voices then I am all in favor of famous actors being voice actors for Skyrim. They did it with Liam Nealson and Malcom McDowell in FO3 and Terrence Stamp, Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart in Oblivion.

There will be some famous actors I assure you.

I really loved Neeson and McDowell in FO:3 - but I felt a bit like Patrick Stewart was kind of wasted in OB - didn't last long enough really, and I bet they payed a fair amount for what was essentially a bit-part. If they spend money on a "big name", I hope they have a meaty enough part to warrant the paycheck (although that might end up costing more I suppose... :( )

No way. Actor = waste of money and bad voice acting.

Yeah, and in Oblivion every male and every female of each race had the exact same, not even particularly good, voice.

Solution: Every character voiced by Brian Blessed.

Patrick Stewart is nice, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niU1bRqxrIU And much, much cheaper, I'm sure. With all the money they save they could get more voice actors, so there's more variety.

Only if their good voice actors

But I don't care to much for voice acting unless it is freakingly amazing.

Like the Narator from the Skyrim Opener video. Amazing.

Being famous doesn't mean your a good voice actor and if theres acertain voice you want just hire a cheap impersonator or something.

But all in all I would have no voice acting and spend the money somewhere else and worry about story and actual dialogue and depth.

I doubt famous voice acting really pressures someone to buy a game.

Anything will do as long as I don't need to listen to Steven Blumm again.

The voice acting is a big deal for me. I can't stand to have an NPC "talking" to me without any sound, and mispronunciations or just plain bad acting spoils the immersion.

As far as Bethesda Softworks goes, I thought Fallout: New Vegas did it best. That said, I would rather have more voice actors and a variety of dialogue (hate hearing the same line a billion times) than established actors. And big name actors are only worth it if they are DAMN GOOD, and, as mentioned, have unique voices that are hard to come by.

I really hope some company just release a game with just basic voicing, good but nothing special graphics, yet with an incredible story, splendid race / class / character / items design, high replayability and stay in the top of the best sellers for 3-4 years.

They shouldn't waste money hiring celebrities. Budgets are like zero sum games, there is only so much to go around. Look at what happened in Oblivion; they hired Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean only be niggardly with all of the other NPC's. Seriously, the Orcs and Nords had identical voice actors, as did all of the elves, and the Khajit and Argonians. Only the Bretons and Imperials had unique voice actors for their race.

That was [censored] terrible. I have lived in Scotland all my life and have never heard anyone speak like that. Her continental European accents all just sounded like bad stereotypes too.

Oh, and I know a girl from Toronto. Sounds nowt like that Toronto accent.

I'd rather have a cast of extremely talented, but little known voice actors. Using famous voices in animated movies can work, but the characters in the movies often bear an intentional resemblance to their real-lfe counterparts (e.g. Jerry Seinfeld in Bee Movie). I don't think this works too well in serious games; I'd rather hear the character I'm listening to rather than just hearing, say, Borimir (which I found happened with Martin in Oblivion).

I'd rather have more voice actors in general. Come on, give beginning voice actors a chance!

Jeff Bridges as a wizard = win!
Also Simon Pegg as your amusing sidekick, Johnny Depp as the head of whatever thieves guild there is, and Helen Mirren as the ruler of Skyrim

I don't care if they would just pick them of the street as long as their voice acting is good.

If they can hire 100 different good but totally unknown voice actors for the same costs as a few well known ones then I won't hesitate for a second and choose for the many unknown voice actors.

Famous voice actors mean high costs while they aren't better at voice acting than lesser known ones, some unknown ones could even turn out to be far better.

I think they can use tech like autotune to polish up poor voice acting... dont know why they would waste the money if they had cheaper alternatives.

I'd like to be able to talk to everyone in town xyz and never hear the same voice twice. Hire as many people as it takes to get this done, we don't care about their pedigree. One of the things that killed Oblivion for me was hearing the same voice actors over and over and over...
