this isnt an idea im claiming, only suggesting, ok, what if you wanted to make a fallout 3 graphic novel or comic strip? use screenchots and something as simple ans paint and you could make it!

There's a neat little app for the Source Engine called Garry's Mod. It's currently the best way (In my eyes at least) of making comics using a game engine.

Making a comic...You'd need someone with a LOT of time on their hands to take the screenshots for the panels, and someone very skilled in photoshop.

Only if you claimed rights to it. It'd be the same thing if I tried to publish Beast Of Burden without their permission. They don't HAVE to, but they have full rights to shut something down if they think it could be interfering with their IP in any way. Take Halo Wars as an example. A while ago, a bunch of independent game developers were creating an RTS out of the HALO universe using a proprietary game engine. I'd imagine this was around the time Bungie (or whomever) was writing Halo Wars, so they sent the dudes a cease and desist letter, and sure enough, about 2 years later, Halo Wars comes out.

In short, as long as you don't make a profit, or call it Fallout 4, I think it'll be fine.

On topic: it would be interesting. Definitely something I've never seen before. As to copyright laws, so long as the person doesn't plan on making a profit from it, and/or has a disclaimer, I think it would be fine. If you're not sure, you could contact an admin and ask permission.

I didn't mean to imply that you would get into trouble, merely that the amount of work may not be worth it - especially if you expected some sort of recognition by more than the viewers of this board.

Also to clear up a point of copyright law:

The myth or belief that if you don't profit from another's IP it is not copyright infringment is exactly that - a myth. Fan fiction, which I myself have engaged in on these forums is technically a copyright violation. Now in my case I would claim that I did not infringe as I did not mention anything specific to the game or storyline such as a fictional item used ONLY in this game or a name of a character or town specific to it. If you do it is technically copyright infringment and Bethesda automatically by copyright law changes per 1989 copyright law, owns the material you worked on, no matter how much time you put into it or how good it is.

Most IP owners overlook fan fiction as it aids the marketing of their product and is, in general, a good thing. I know there are two authors currently that expressly forbid fan fiction. One is Ann Rice. I cannot recall the other at the moment.

However, all of this being said, an idea cannot be copyrighted. Therefore, anyone could write a story of a wasteland or holocaust aftermath and as long as they did not use any name specific towns, items, characters or any specific dialogue (line complete), there would be no copywrite infringment.

The sole sticky point being that Zenimax media has claimed that they own everything that appears in these forums by copyright. Personally, I think a court of law would see things differently but that is what Zenimax claims.

I hope this clears up in some small degree, copyright law.

Since we are posting on a fan fiction forum, I highly doubt there would be a problem. However, there is one issue. This is a teen forum, and Fallout is M. I wonder how that would work out. Writing is one thing, but posting pictures is another.
