My main pet peeve is when Asap...oh wait.
Actually, I could list loads. One off the top of my head:
I often find it quite disheartening when a character comes in who, although not written by a God Monger, is a carbon copy of a Skyrim or Oblivion (or even Morrowind) main character. That is, someone strolling in with every type of enchanted everything, and a huge wealth of experience in the companions the dark brotherhood, etc... While I realise that often starting off RPing can be intimidating, and people do like to explore the characters they play in the games, almost without exception these are the least interesting characters for other people to have to read about, and end up defined very much by the things they did in the game (that the rest of us did anyway). You can't outright ban people from doing this (oh but I would if I could
), its more something that I always find depressing, whenever I see. Interesting, nuanced characters, if they are based on main characters people have played in the TES games, are generally an abstraction of one particular aspect of that character or race. A good example (that I'm grabbing off the top of my head, and may be wrong), would be Gorbad's Orcan Smith. I have no idea if Gorbad ever played this character in Skyrim (as its his username I suspect he might've
) but he brilliantly explored what it meant to be an Orc smith, literally what it meant to have a Smithing stat of so-and-so, without also writing about someone who was a Companion, Werewolf, Thieves Guild member, and so on.
There we go, I named two specific people. Woo for breaking the rules!
