FAQ discussion

Well short and too the point. Its at the top of the forum so its good and visible. Now how long will it take until some posts the same stuff we keep getting asked. Anyway can we still point them towards the Compendium?

It's fine to point people towards the Compendium :)

The FAQ should cut down on some of the new threads posted about this but it won't get rid of them entirely. However if the thread is simply asking for a yes/no response to a question covered there we're now set up to answer it, provide a link to the FAQ, and then lock it.

wait, so.... you've got an answer for this "Q: Will there be a beta for Brink?" and not this "Q: Will there be a demo for Brink?"
I wonder at the implications :D

That probably has more to do with who answered them, one is a developer being interviewed and the other I obtained straight from Bethesda Softworks.

how about:
Q: How do unlocks work?
Q: What are skills? How do they work? How many do I get? Examples?
Q: How many weapons are there? Customizable? How and what?
Q: How do I get over these anticipation shakes?

The first question isn't bad, particularly if the "you only get to take three (?) abilities into the game" bit is included in the response - that's a good bit of information and not something people are likely to ask about. The next too cover way too much information unless there is a specific article or video that covers all of this. The last one requires medical advise best not included in an official FAQ.

At this point there aren't any plans to expand this - that certainly may change particularly if the same yes/no or short answer question keeps appearing over and over again. Gstaff and Nick may also decide to add to it but obviously that's out of my hands. :)

well, if there are any resources on questions 2&3, i'd love a linky :D

And I'd ask my Dr.... but the obamaplan doesn't cover game-related medical issues :(

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1113952-brink-faq/ :)

We've tried to keep it short and keep it general. The longer the FAQ is the less likely people will read through it, which goes for the number of questions as well as the length of the responses. There were a lot of good questions suggested here that just couldn't be answered concisely. There were also a lot of good suggestions that have been included - either way thanks for the assistance guys!

In the past when we've pinned stuff like this we've sometimes run in to problems where new users who unfortunately didn't read the FAQ get slammed when they posted threads covered in it. I certainly understand that repetitive topics can grate on regular members but we don't want this forum to become hostile to new members so please be courteous when redirecting.

Thanks, guys, for putting up a concise FAQ and for creating what looks like a brilliant game. Can't wait to play. I have only 1 comment/request, and that concerns gender.

I admittedly don't understand the technical reasons stated in the FAQ explaining why 1 of the many characters couldn't be made female. (It worked fine in Borderlands.) As a female FPS player, it is always demoralizing not to have a female character to play. It always makes me, and doubtless other female gamers, feel marginalized and discounted. Almost as though we are irrelevant to the developers. (For the guys - iImagine what it would feel like if all your FPS games required you to play girl characters.) I hope that you folks and other FPS developers will at some point throw in even a token female to enhance the gaming experience of your female buyers.

Thanks!

soooo many other threads about this, but basically they cut it because it would halve the amount of customization available for both genders. They tried to get both in but time constraints and the difficulties involved with creating female shapes for each body-size made it too hard to fit in. Sorry, it svcks but that's just life

in the future if you don't want to be spammed with links you should use the search bar in the top right corner.
Also, welcome to the forums, have a turtle :turtle:

You have to remember Borderlands has no customization, just a palette of three colors.

I hear you loud and clear, but most developers realize that the large majority of playing customers are caucaisan/african-american male, and will make most, if not all, characters caucaisan/african-american male.

Blame capitalism.

Maybe my plethora of forums I am a part of is throwing my off, but isn't it frowned upon to revive old threads?

We're none to fussed about that here, repeat, repeat, repeat threads are much worse.

There are female NPC's just not playable ones. Also I wouldn't care if I had to play as a girl in the game. I don't care about gender in games, I care about the gameplay and other game features. Gender means nothing to me in games.

You should include a link to https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dDdWOGlGNG9VV1FrY0tRcTJhTmlEY2c6MQ to hopefully slow down all the "what class / faction / body type are you gonna be" threads. Also, a statement that there are no one-hit kills. Things that threads are constantly being made about.

Nice...

It's OK to bump an old thread if you have something constructive to add to it, although if a thread is more than a month or so old it's generally better just to make a fresh thread.

In this case the discussion has turned towards women in Brink, that really deserves it's own thread rather than taking over this one. :)

If people have information that they believe belongs in the official FAQ they're welcome to PM me but realize we're trying to keep this concise, not include all of the official information so the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1154126-unofficial-brink-faq/ Dysfunkshion started maybe the better choice.
