Far Cry 2 thoughts

I know it isn't Crytek, but is anyone an FC2 fan? Personally, I think Ubisoft did a great job with the property. I started playing Far Cry about a year before FC2 came out because my big brother loved to map so much. I got hooked. Then FC2 came out and it only expanded on this strength. I think Ubisoft messed a lot of stuff up though. Matchmaking for one, the main story was a little to slow but in its defense, very realistic story lines which I think Crytek lacks. I'd like to see Crytek buy the property back if Ubisoft is not going to do anything with it. Crytek is good at creating linear games that feel very open, helps to keep the game flow moving.

I am a Far Cry 2 fan, it was a great title in my opinion. I have only about 150 hours on the game though, and I haven't finished the Singleplayer. =/ The Singleplayer is quite good though!

I was so bummed Talon, I worked my butt off in the campaign only to get the dreaded bug. It corrupted all of my save files. I am pretty sure they fixed it. It happens around 65% or so. I was really enjoying it.

Meh, it just didn't do it for me somehow. Don't know why but I barely played it.

I played it, finished the storyline a few times too. Thought it seemed okay, but lacked in some areas.

The area it lacked in was the variety of missions. It was simply go there and kill, save friend (If applicable), and done. That was all there was to it really.

I also hated the fact that your AI friend got injured so quickly. The patrols were also a pain, but I could deal with them swiftly and without a problem.

There was some stuff I liked. The first is the environment, beautiful work. The weapons were also great, but it was hard killing the enemies. The fire was just impressive though. I have to admit the explosions were amazing.

There's so much stuff to talk about on this game, but it really was lacking game. Since the game was being developed at the same time as Assassins Creed, probably that's why both games were lacking.

If Assassins Creed 2 improved greatly from it's predecessor, then I can only imagine Far Cry 3 will be just as breath-taking.

Yeah, I hope so. Still there has been no news on FC3 since the mention that they were working on it. I am hoping that they did not give up on the project and not tell anyone.

Yeah missions were boring after a while. It was just really great to drive around the country side, very immersive.

It's funny you mention the 2 games AC and FC because they both seem a little under developed. Like they got to Alpha and just said, well that good enough. Really lacked in any depth.

Loved Farcry 2, beat it once on PS3, and was playing on PC, many ideas were good, such as jamming guns, fire spreading, but physics were bad sometimes, you could knife a bullet stash and it will explode, if a car goes underwater it stops working and is unable to be broken.

I didn't give FC2 a chance after buying FC:instincts which was very disappointing. I suppose after reading this thread, maybe I'll give it a chance if it's on sale someday.

I was stupid enough to pre-order the limited edition box with T-Shirt etc. After taking in all the hype I was expecting a lot. Man what a waste of my hard earned $$$. There is nothing redeeming about this game at all. Looked nice enough but no substance and rubbish multiplayer. Way to take a game line and ruin it Ubisoft.

Yeah, some people loved FC2 and some really, really hated it. It was not your usual FPS, that is for sure.

FC1 and it's expansions were made by Crytek, so it was different from what FC2 gave.

FC2 isn't about monsters, it's about a war, between 2 rival factions, and you're caught in the middle of it, finding the arms dealers called "The Jackal". The basic concept sounds great, hopefully in the next they can make this game have some emotion, cause war is an emotional journey.

But yeah, it will be awhile before we hear anything about FC3, all I know is their in planning stages.

i played through the singleplayer which eventually got boring on one hand but kinda addictive with all the different guns you could use on the other. the multiplayer was utter **** though.
i think the player's interaction with npcs was one of the biggest downsides. when you make an open world game (crysis was NOT an open world game, even if they insist on calling it "sandbox" gameplay and everyone acts like the world is going to end when they become a square foot smaller in crysis 2) you need to include some rpg-style elements, AC2 and gta4 suffered from that lack of interaction, too. RDR has more though so i think rockstar have learned their lesson.
in the end FC2 was just too repetetive and the graphics werent as good as promised.

loved fc2, completed it then enjoyed messing around with a trainer :P Mgl with inf ammo and no reload, it was like an artiliary strike when you shot it upwards. And the castle place, i liked sneaking in then killing everyone with stealth stuff, good times

fc2 wasnt the smoothest shooter ive ever played but, i could only describe it as guerilla warfare, was the best part of the game. few well paced rockets then clean up the rest or sneak in and plant an ied to surprise the enemy, that kinda cool ****.

With an SDK and/or a full editor FC2 would have been a game loved by a load of modders; as the engine was VERY WELL optimized for the graphical quality it gave. It still is some of the best games in graphics.

Especially for console, the amount of detail was amazing, I actually loved those long deserts, though it was a pity we couldn't actually see it all.

I do like Far Cry 2, but there were a lot of problems with it. After a while, it got extremely repetitious. Didn't like the multiplayer much either. I still love the game though; it looks great and plays great.

The only game I've ever pre-ordered with Limited Edition was Hellgate: London, and THAT was a huge waste of $$$. Worst game I've ever played.

@Sahdev

FC2 was a shooter, that you had to kinda slow down and relax to enjoy. If you were looking for a balls to the wall shooter, this was not it. I agree that the best part about the SP campaign was the open desert and Savannah. It all felt very real.

@Enfadel

I agree with you. The jungles were crap, though. Always when i had to go through a jungle area, i was like: "Oh crap, i gotta get prepared for crap.". The jungles in FC2 are very light, not dense like a real jungle would be. Also in Far Cry 2 water looks HORRIBLE. I seriously don't understand why Ubisoft chose that like ugly green-ish water. It really isn't like that in every single place of africa. In savannah the water colour would most likely be more brown-ish, because of sand and mud.

mp is such an unpredictable hd affair. it really is too inconsistent to take serious. its a shame, it had such potential. i played it the other day after along time away and it's always full of fps mp newbies - no serious mp gamers stick at this game, always been like so. i was going pretty good but just turned it off in disgust when i encountered someone let go an entire clip into them, they weren't dead, so a few pistol heads, and they still running in front of me like a headless chicken and they turned a droped me with one sniper shot. sadly this happens regularly with it, poor netcode, whatever is it, it always destoys having fun with that mp. at least crytek get hd and netcode mostly right/good in their mp efforts, thats why i will always support their games.

There was a lot of problems with the gun balance. I don't know but it seemed like Ubisoft was not very familiar with MP FPS balancing issues. They started a thread about what changes the players wanted as far as weapon balance. Needless to say everyone complained about the same thing and they ended up changing all the wrong stuff. Made almost every gun set unusable except for Saboteur. So everyone used that one afterwards.

Really bad matchmaking system to. People could see rank in the lobby and you could switch teams. All the high ranks would switch to the lobby host team because he could boot low level people if they joined the team. The APR side was always hella rank heavy and the UFLL was always super new guys that did not know enough to drop out of the lopsided match. Impossible to have a fair game.

The only thing I liked was the golden AK. Now that was actually great. Yes, FC2 was a pretty slow FPS, something I liked.

I actually ran throughout the whole map for one territory, and I must admit, it was quite a relaxing time. But the fact that there were a few enemies (I just killed them with the Dart Rifle), it was pretty much fun.

I hope they keep it that way, it makes it different from the other FPS's.

I thought Far Cry 2 mainly consisted of frustrating and boring busy work. That was basically the whole game for me.
