Far Too Much Cash

Post » Thu Sep 06, 2012 10:03 am

Hello all,

Niamh has too much money.

Those of you who know anything about her at all will know that she has no use for it. She's not interested in houses and all of that stuff, and she's also fairly frugal with regards to clothes and so forth - (despite how it may appear).

So, all of this has resulted in her collecting up a massive amount of cash that she really couldn't care less less about.

I, therefore, have taken it upon myself to garner suggestions as to what can be done with it.

Suggestions...? :D

She's not that charitable.
A couple of coins here or there to a beggar but other than that...

Send it over to Baa and she’ll add it to her nearly 20 million, then she’ll have even more money to wonder what to do with, too.
There may be something you can do with the console.

Actually - Droppable Gold.
That might work.

Mechanically, I use the command console to help Buffy remove cash all the time (this does not please her, but that's too bad).

RP wise, she pays recurring dues to her guild of mages.

She uses rather exclusive arrows that we console in for her while consoling out huge amounts of cash to pay for them. She can only do this in the presence of one of the three fletchers in our game that we pretend can make such arrows. They are not godly arrows, we just like the look of them. So when she stocks up, it is generally for hundreds of them, most of which go into the enchanted saddlebags of her precious mare (since Buffy's quiver is limited to 25 arrows).

She buys only the best tack and feed at the stables and tips the stablehands extremely well, thus ensuring top of the line care for her precious mare.

Although it is only a minor factor, she buys much of the food that she and her horse eat. A septim here, five more there.

Buffy does not own any houses but if she did, I would make her pay steep property taxes to the hungry command console. Lol.

Her other bonafide cash requirements are extremely low. She no longer needs to buy repair hammers, usually sleeps for free (camping or MG guildhalls) has all the enchanted gear she needs and her spell book is pretty full of top of the line custom spells.

The other end of the equation is limiting her income. She basically picks up only scrolls (weight = 0.1) and lockpicks (weight = 0) to sell because that is enough to keep her flush with cash and the act of selling it gradually increases her very slow leveling mercantile skill. Oddly enough, she ignores gold coins since they do not translate to improving her mercantile skill.

I like to see Buffy generally carrying less than 2K gold.

Open console: Player.additem F -1000

Your gold will be reduced by 1000. "F" happens to be the hex item code for gold. You can add or subtract any given amount with that command.

That is exactly the command I use as well.

She should buy a game whose designers spent more than ten seconds thinking about money supply and sinks (which rules out any TES..)

Thanks guys.
I have some suggestions to make to her ladyship, next encounter, as to what she can do with her gold.
She has a tendency to hoard, even though she doesn't require it, or need it, or want it.
I just think it's because she's never had any so she just hangs on to it - but value-wise it's completely meaningless...

-yawn-
Yeah thanks for that.

Just thought of this. In the vanilla game there are some high value rings and enchanted stuff ranging upward of 20,000, and there are mod items of very high value - have one at 90,000. Go to some poor merchant with say 500 septims and sell the item and by it back at full value. An hour or two of that would eat a hole in your stash. Just did it at the Feed Bag and it works.

Yes, this is a superb idea for players who do not wish to use (or don't have) the command console. Just sell that awesome blade of doom for 500 and buy it back for 5000 a few times and watch the septims fall away!

In fact, my fave merchant is the one in the University Lustratorium because she only has 15 gold to bargain with!

You're on PC. Why not simply install http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/25078, whose stated purpose is:

"Completely overhauls Oblivion's economic game to make it immersive and interesting, and optionally making it harder to get rich fast."

This is true but it would sit uncomfortably as there is no logical reason why this would happen...

A good point and it's possible that Cyrodiil's merchant may well become rather - shall we say - less generous...

I suspect though that I shall simply tell her that if she doesn't want it, she should drop it, but maybe stash somewhere so that if she ever were to actually need it, then she would have it secreted away...
