To Fast Travel, Or Not To Fast Travel

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 3:19 am

For quite awhile I won't fast travel just so I can take in the world and maybe see some of these random encounters Bethesda has been on about, I'm really excited to see as many as possible, it was one of my favorite features in FO3.

I told myself i wouldn't fast travel in Fallout 3 but when i run out of Stimpaks in the centre of nowhere then it was hard not to. In Skyrim ill try not to but i fear that'll last about 2 hours with all them Dragons flying around

The only reason I used Fast Travel as much as I did in Oblivion was because I found the environments pretty repetitive to walk through and wherever I fast traveled, I ended up exploring around anyway. But Skyrim is different already. Just from the demo footage, the world just feels way more alive to me and that's enough for me to not rely so much on fast travel. I'll probably only use it now if I'm in a rush to get back to town before I have to quit, or if I maybe forgot something at some place and I JUST walked all the way back from said place.

Nope... no FT for me.
Especially now when we have a Morrowind-like alternative.

Of course, why wouldn't I?

Loved it in Oblivion / FO3 / FO:NV..... it greatly improved my ability to explore, adventure, and see the world, since I wasn't spending so much of my time trudging back and forth through areas I'd already seen several times, that were already completely cleared of enemies, dungeons, and treasure.

Yeah, I plan to fast travel. I don't find it ruins emersion for me. I usually don't have 8 hours to play at a stretch - when I'm only on for 30 mins or an hour I don't mind fast travelling to get to where I need to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about exploring, traveling off the beaten path to discover new places, etc. I just fast travel to get where I've been lots of times before, to help me get things done faster when I'm on a time budget.

Yes, I'll use fast travel to get to and from places I've already been. I'll already have less time then I'd like to play Skyrim so I'll use quicktravel as a means of being able to play more of the game in the time I have.

im going to try and not fast travel my first playthrough so i can really take in all of the landscape and get a better feel for where stuff is.. when i abused fast travel in oblivion i got less familiar w the map and how to get from place to place. also what is morrowind fast travel? i never played that one and kno that it is in skyrim.

I wont fast travel (point and click or carriages) because I think it degrades the experience.

I won't be using the fast travel option, unless some quest gets boring and i am on a 12 hour game marathon. Maybe 5 times tops for a 1000 hour playthrough.
Although i will be using the carriage system a lot, to travel from one major city to another! :foodndrink:

I plan on not ever using fast travel. Travel should be a lot more interesting with the dragons and the random events you can come upon, the fact there are other travelers other than yourself. Landscape seems more interesting than Oblivion too. And I used to think the entire northern Skyrim would be snow and ice, but it seems this is only the case for the north-east (Winterhold Hold)

I need another option: fast travel only to places I've been before on a multiple check-in quest.

I try not to use it as much as possible, but then you get that fetch and carry quest wherein you have to go visit someone, they give you a note, you take it back, they say it's wrong, you have to take it back again...ugh.

That's the only thing I used mark and recall for actually.

i wont fast travel but i will use the carriages from time to time especially if it is like
RDR and i can read while i'm travelling { that'd be pretty nice }.
never fast travel in Oblivion really { one or twice in my god knows how many hours/years of playing it }.

After about 100 hours of walking back and forth across the ENTIRE MAP... Even those who say they won't fast travel are bound to give up and do so...

It depends what the quest is, if the area is interesting and if I have time in the real world to waste running around... Honestly if I only have a hour to play Im not going to spend the entire time walking or running across the entire place. I would not get much done, would I?
If the quest is a simple errand Like retrieving a book from a city mage or something, Ill fast travel it. But something big, nah. Ill walk there thank you.
