To Fast Travel, Or Not To Fast Travel

Post » Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:19 pm

I'll fast travel, but I will be happy to walk at times if the game gives me a good reason - scenery, random encounters, things to find, etc.

I fast traveled a lot less in Fallout 3 than Oblivion.

Most of the time I won't. But I reserve the right to do so should the urge arise.

i wont fast travel but i will use the carriages from time to time especially if it is like
RDR and i can read while i'm travelling { that'd be pretty nice }.
never fast travel in Oblivion really { one or twice in my god knows how many hours/years of playing it }.
 Ely

Oh...It would be neat to be able to look out the window and see stuff too. Maybe have random encounters that would stop the carriage and be attacked by Highwaymen or something.

No fast travel, because I am in no hurry to "complete" all the content. The longer it takes me, the better.

I might do the carriages if they were cool, and you actually rode in them from point A to B. But they'll probably be like Silt Striders or boats from Morrowind, unfortunately, so what's the point.

The question isn't "Are you always going to fast travel". Saying "yes" can imply that you will use it to some degree, not 100% of the time. However, it appears that OP has granted your wish.

One question i have, is whether fast-travel costs money. Why use a carriage when i could fast-travel for free?(assuming i have discovered the location)

I am going to try to not fast travel, but I will be honest it probably won't take me long to break down and start using it.

I have very mixed feelings about it, I don't like the concept of fast travel since it really detracts from immersion and (as far as I know) has no lore behind it to support it being there. However from a game play standpoint i understand and appreciate why it exists and am grateful for it.

I create mods personally and one of the ideas I actually had was to create a mod that transformed fast travel into a dragon shout with a moderate cool down somewhere between 10-30 minutes real time. Of course I have no idea how the new creation kit compares to previous TES games so I don't know if this will be possible and will most likely be dependent on some form a script extender. Only time will tell but it is on my modding short list.

I don't ever intend to use the fast travel option. I probably will use the carriages though.

I voted sometimes but likely i will not be using it...

I will most likely use it my second play through, and the only time I would use it in my first is if I forget something half way across the map and rage about it :swear:

How exactly do the carriages work?
Does it show you ridding to the next town? Can you jump off midway/at all?

Depends on which fast travel... I will use carriages and stuff, but no Oblivion-like fast travel, no. (Didn't vote though because it wasn't clear from the poll, sorry)

+1 ,

... And probably I will use FT only after 100 or 150 hours of gameplay, and only to return to merchants to sell lots of goods...

In the ideal world, I would never fast travel. However, in the real world, I have university, friends and, of course, the ladies, that all take priority over video games. Seeing as how I can manage 3-4 hours of play time a week MAX, I want to spend as much time doing quests and as little time walking between quests as possible. That's not to say I won't spend a lot of time exploring when I first get the game or when I have some time off (long weekends, Christmas holidays, etc).

I NEVER fast travel.

Part of the beauty of the Elder Scrolls series is to slowly walk/run to the location, while enjoying the scenery.
Occasionally you can just come across something interesting off the path, be it a dungeon, town, ruin etc.

If you fast travel, you are completely missing the point of playing an Elder Scrolls RPG.

I voted sometimes. I won't fast travel via the map (well at least I'll quickly download a mod which disable this option), but I will use the transport if they're present.

If your feet get tired from all the walking/running, you are more than welcome to rest at my camp and share a meal and some mead, brother.
