Fast travel as a perk

Is anyone opposed to this? It would be a level 1 perk. If it did happen there would hopefully be transportation services in the towns

Meh, i wouldnt be against such a thing but i still think the best way to go about fast travel would be having an option when you start the game to disable instant fast travel permanently, and incorporating a travel network into the game world.

It could be a good idea; it's an immersive option to keep fast travel fully optional, rather than a setting.

Of course, we would also need some fast travel transportation system as in Morrowind... almost no one would want to walk everywhere all the time.

I'd prefer it to stay as a normal part of the game but making it a perk wouldn't ruin the experience. The perk system seems very out of place in an Elder Scrolls game but at least I get to say "Fallout with swords". :turned:

fallout had swords, and Fallout is just an adapted version of elder scrolls so if anything it is ES with guns
and perks were in Oblivion also

You mean there would be an option for Fast Travel in the options menu you can turn off?

Yes, that's what we want. :celebration:

Fallout with Magic would be closer to the mark

Like others I would prefer the optional travel services like Silt Striders.

thats a terrible idea if its in the game as optional its not hurting anyone why would you want to waste good space for a useful perk?

It's optional. If you don't want to use it, don't. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing a few travel services for the immersion factor, but again it can't hurt you if you don't use it.

It doesn't really fit as a perk.

Also as a perk it would be overpowered.

I'd rather it be just a toggle option in a check list.

Your use of grammar astounds me, the way you flicker between topics without any commas and ignore punctuation. Good show.

that wouldnt solve the problem... ppl that hate the fast travel from oblivion still didnt want to walk everywhere. The fast travel system was put into oblivion for those who dont have time to play it all day everyday. personally i think it wouldnt be a problem if they jus made where quest were relevant to the city u were in, instead of having u warp from one side to the other

Your use of fallacies to attack his structure rather than the argument is far more astounding. Shame on you.

No, let everyone use fast travel without needing the perk... also, add travel services a la Morrowind.

Because walking to the nearest town and using the travel services there takes hours!
Oh wait.

Anyway, fast travel would still be there, and would be on by default, the people who don't want to see it could just turn it off. Everybody wins!

No, that would totally break immersion. Fast Travel as a function, is only in the game because it's convenient for the player, to skip time, the character doesn't skip time ever, and the perks are character qualities.

that is completely redundant to have both...

@lady in the sky, read above statement.... it makes no since to have both features, it would be better if they jus added the morrowind system and just tweeked the divine intervention spell (say they giv u an option of pickin which place u want to go) and gave it to u at the start of the game

I think the most elegent solution to this debate is Fast Travel Hubs(ships, carriages, etc) in major cities so that any player can get from town to town quickly, within the logic of the lore. Then add a subquest into the game, similiar to the Skeleton Key Quest, that allows you to hunt down a Magic Map that will teleport you to any location you've previously been at a simple touch.

This covers everyone's bases.

The Morrowind style of fast travel is restored (Improved, if an option to view your ingame trip exists)

Those who REALLY want full fast travel can use the Hubs until they quest for the Magic Map, just as those who didn't want to pick locks would get the Skeleton Key (Though I'm sure most of you were master lockpickers from minute one  )

Best of all, it restores the usefulness of Mark and Recall for both those with and without the Magic Map, with the idea being that M/R is more accurate than being dropped outside town.

Everybody wins.
