A "No fast travel" playthrough.

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:11 am

So I want to do a no fast travel playthrough on my Blackguard Style Character. I plan to have him be a cultist of either Namira, Molag Bal or Mehrunes Dagon. Now the reason I picked a "No Fast Travel" playstyle for this character is because I believe I have more opportunities to flex those evil brain cells and especially more opportunities for Roleplay this way. I've noticed that even having a horse is useful for this sort of playthrough if I'm in a particular hurry for whatever reason(Shadowmere is a BAMF anyways). Likely going to be pooling into crafting but I won't be intentionally breaking it with potions or items. My magic skills will be Illusion, Conjuration and Destruction as I feel those skills will best reflect a Blackguard. I will likely be using the typical warrior skills alongside alchemy(for poisons. :D).

Thoughts?

I would use fast travel less if they NPC's actually told you where to go...... But ya my next character I am going to avoid it at all costs.

Yea. For this reason I'll be using the map to plot out a course along the world but that'd be as far as I go with the map.

I really want somone to make a mod that removes your character location marker on the map, it would be fun to have to navigate yourself.....

sounds like a nice little playthrough. Horse will definitely be indespensible if you're going the no fast travel route. I am playing a no fast travel character, and having a horse is my go-to means of travel when I just want to get somewhere quickly.

I don't use fast travel.. game is much funner this way and it lasts a lot longer :P. I would miss a ton of content if I just fast traveled everywhere.

Not even carriages? Some players don't use fast travel but use carriages, which is in essence fast travel between cities :P. Worst of all, you can buy a carriage ride to a city you have not yet explored, which you cannot do with fast travel.

I've never used fast travel or horses. It's fun, but the slow respawn time on any dangers along the road make it pretty damn lame.

That being said you might want to make one exception: fast traveling down from High Hrotgar. I made a new character, wanted Dragons immediately, so rushed the MQ till the greybeards part. Picked up the deliver quest from the bridge near Ivarstead.
So I went up the mountain, did all the stuff I was supposed to, was about to fast travel back to Ivarstead to turn that quest in, then take the river downstream to Darkwater Crossing.
Yeah... I forgot to explore Ivarstead. Trust me, you do not want to run up and down that mountain...

Why it's not that long of a walk. I never use fast travel and I've climbed up and down high hrothgar a few times. Not a big deal at all

Oh yea. I've tried walking down that mountain without going to Ivarstead via fast travel. Took me forever.

This is how I play. And I only run when it's appropriate; such as quests where NPCs you're supposed to follow run(which I often find quite annoying by the way).

No horses.

I love that shout. I once had to go to a place that was down a steep hill and I was lazy so I just jumped off a cliff and didn't kill my self thanks to become ethereal.

Rivers make for an efficient way of getting somewhere if one is lazy thanks to current.

Good luck with selling stuff every 6 hours for the 750 gold total > vendor. If it wasn't for fast travel I would have no money and 10000000000000000000000 items in my inventory.

I've hired carriages three or four times, so far. I haven't used a horse yet. In the wilderness my character runs. In towns my character walks most of the time.

This brings back some of the feeling of being lost and exploring and wondering when I was going to stumble across my destination that I had in Morrowind. I'm really enjoying it.

This wasn't an issue for me. And because I walk everywhere there was no point in not encumbering myself so I often had 6k in weight I sold with minimal problem.
