Fast travel is it still in

Post » Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:43 pm

Honestly if they just had, instead of fast travel via location like fallout3/oblivion the old morrowind style.

Guild can transport you to major cities FOR A FEE.

Boats coastal cities for a fee.

Some SUPER EPIC polar beast for land transport; im talking something ultra crazy epic in size with mammoth like fur u dig. or maybe not even that

And everywere else YOU have a horse so really there's not to much downtime; honestly the horse was pointless in oblivion when you could just go CLICK.

How about a mix of both systems. Fast travel only to major locations, with NPC travel to minor locations, and your good ol feet to take you to the smaller, less "important" locations.

Yes, fast travel is still in. But with TES: V having no HUD, the green arrow of doom wont be staring at you the whole time you're playing.

As the old saying goes, out of sight, out of mind.

Also, a location has to be discovered before you can travel to it. So you'll have to walk there at least once anyway.

Yes, it is in, but I think they are going to be more restrictive with the whole "can't fast travel to places you havn't been to yet" thing.

I read that there are some restrictions now, can anyone confirm? There really needs to be some disadvantages to fast travel.

well that svcks

I'm stating they should remove that b/c then whats the point of having something like a horse honestly it should be the morrowind style of fast travel. AKA guilds, boats ect then maybe you could have portals of some type for area's not anywere close to major cities. Thus making everything in the game reachable in walking/riding distance but still making you run/ride there.

i don't see why people can't just not use fast travel... Im sure mods will come along for npc fast travel... and the other complaint (about the compass) is obsolete now with the option of hud, I think people should just wait and see how things work before they pass judgement.

My issue with fast travel in Oblivion wasn't that it existed. It was that there were no other options. In Oblivion you had fast travel, a horse or your own two feet and that was it. In Morrowind you could chose so many more ways to travel without having to run everywhere that was more immersive. If I could get those options again I wouldn't care if they had fast travel or not.

I am finding this all out right now, for the very first time, to my extreme displeasure.

Fast travel was in Arena and Daggerfall. Of course back then the maps were so huge that it was necessary, but they were implemented better than Oblivion's fast travel. I do hope it stays, although from what I've seen in the screenshots, the environments look a lot better to explore. So I may not have as much need to use it. But if it is introduced, I would prefer something like Daggerfall's fast travel.

Now, if you actually realize that Fast Travel is optional in the first place, then you will come to understand that it really is not that bad.

If there's a mix between MW travelling network (+ horses or similar), and Oblivion's Fast-Travel, I'm already happy.

This. This is the system I've been trying to promote. It's the perfect system for Fast Travel without having people completely ignore 90% of the game world.

Well you just listed three for Oblivion. What are the ones for Morrowind? Siltstrider, feet and Scrolls?

Siltstrider, boats, about 5 different forms of teleporting (Propylon Chambers, Mages Guild, Mark/Recall, Almsivi Intervention, Divine Intervention), and of course your feet. There may be others but I don't remember them.

I have to agree that my biggest problem with fast travel in Oblivion was that there was no OTHER option. It's not really optional when it's the only way. I much preferred the NPC travel options, but I'd be satisfied if they simply restricted fast travel to major landmarks.

Yep, me too. I don't get why they won't just add a traveling network, is it really that hard?

Keep Oblivions style for people who want it, but it's just lazy not to implement real forms of travel into the game as well.

If there is a hardcoe mode option (that lets you toggle which aspects of hardcoe mode you want in your game) then that would be the perfect opportunity to remove fast travel without upsetting anybody.

Fantastic idea, they just need to flesh out an alternative system that fits correctly (Morrowinds system, for example).

Though i wouldnt be against this i think its unnecessary, it would be easier to simply add the travel services to the vanilla game, i dont get why they cater to lazy people who cant be bothered walking across town to a travel service, or cant think ahead before adventuring and buy a scroll of divine intervention. Its isnt hard to do these things.
But no, instead they have instant teleport from any location with no disadvantages what so ever, and for the people who dont like it? Well they can just walk... nice alternative bethesda.

As long as everyone can easily disable it!
It NEEDS to be an option so that EVERYONE can disable it if he or she wants to! And there's a lot that wants!
Mods can't make up for this because they don't work on consoles. And many people play on consoles.

I say this to Bethesda:
1. Focus first on making it OPTIONAL. An easy option to turn it off/on! This is not much to ask for!
2. Focus secondly on allowing for other means of transportation. More immersive ones, like in Morrowind! A lot of people want this! It helps with the "RPG explore" experience/feeling!
