Fast Traveling: Un-needed luxury

Post » Sun Jun 02, 2013 1:01 pm

Being able to fast travel anywhere is way too convienient, and it also makes the use of carriages pointless. I really hope in future elder scrolls games they will take away fast travel, or at least decrease the number of areas you can travel to. I think it would be a lot better and also make sense if they made it so you can travel from a hired carriage, (or personal carriage) to any small village, or Hold Capital.

I just think it would be nice if the carriage drivers weren't pointless.

On another random note, hopefully they have ACTUAL moving carriages traveling the road's, not just broken ones lying in disarray on the side, in the future.

I agree with you but some people don't want to spend all their time traveling. I think it's a personal opinion or RP guideline.

Don't use FT then. It's reallythat simple. I use when I need to get to High Hrothgar after the 100th time.

Fast Travel is useful when you're a very low level and don't feel like getting jumped on the road by random bandits, vampires, etc. Also what Shadow_Titan said as well, it gets really tedious traveling over and over again to the same location. It just saves time and makes it to where you don't waste your life walking the same paths all the time.

heres an Idea:

if you don't like it, don't use it..

I know, its a crazy Idea, I must have been blessed by the Mad God....

Seriously though, there are people who like fast Travel, so its there for those people. if you don't like it, dont use it.

this reminds me of the time my Fiance was complaining because they sold Burgers at a Chinese Place.. If She didn't want the Burger, just don't order it and leave it for those who like Burgers.....

I realize that I don't have to fast travel if I don't want to, What I'm saying is that it would be better if they made fast travel dependent on Carriages.

It's a good thing that your opinion is just that, an opinion.

if you want fast Travel only by Carriages, only fast travel by Carriages...

why is this so hard to comprehend..?

fast Travel is there because the lack of it in Morrowind caused people to complain about how tedious traveling was. if they got rid of it we would likely get similar complaints

I'm content, well actually no I agree to an extent I wish they didn't make quests on the premise that you, out of practicality, have to use FT. it was done with Oblivion and it was done again with Skyrim. again its true, don't like it don't use it (IN SKYRIMS CASE,) since Carriages are there. but the GPS system, and quest arrows just tempt you hard.

thank the Devs for Enablefastravel = 0 I apologize to my like minded Console bros who do not have the option.

Worse then you want to get back from the college. Totally annoying.

On PC you have an mod to add more carriage stations, others to disable fast traveling.

Would not do one without the other as it become to annoying.

Never say that, or something like that without a "In my opinion" before of after it.

Anyway, I disagree. I personally like the In-Map Fast Travel, it saves me a lot of time not having to go again and again to the same place repeatedly for literally hundreds if not thousands, of times.

BECAUSE ITS POINTLESS. why is that so hard for YOU to comprehend? I'm saying there is no point to use the carriages, so why would I? whats the point of walking ten steps to a carriage when you can fast travel with the click of 2 buttons? It would make the game more entertaining to do this. Plus it just makes sense.

The carriage could use some more work, but it's there for the roleplayer who have no other altenative.

what don't you get?

Its NOT Pointless because you said you don't like Fast Travel. That is your Alternative.

Is it Pointless for me to ride my bike to work when I own a Ford F-150? No, because I prefer the exercise

Entertaining? No, not really no. At least, not for the majority of people. You're obviously not in that majority though.

You exaggerate quite a lot. First of all, Skyrim is a huge open world, and you don't have "hundreds if not thousands" of missions for ANY area. The areas where you DO have to travel to a lot, (Hold Capital's, High Hrothgar, etc) you simply walk over to the hefty Carriage, and pay that kindly carriage driver to take you.

You've obviously haven't done much in Skyrim. Hundreds of thousands is not an exaggeration.

Why is it so hard for you to comprehend that other players like the carriages, and use them instead of just clicking two buttons? For people who roleplay, the carriages are there. For people who want to travel with the game mechanics, the carriages are there. For other players who don't want to use that, there is no requirement to do so.

I appreciate the carriages. If I don't feel like hiking from Morthal to Riften, I have a choice of method other than click on the map fast travel. Beats Morrowind, where by the 479862nd trip between Ald Ruhn and Pelegiad I was using coc commands so I didn't have to see the same rocks, trees, and bushes. Again.

I hope you read everything else I said. I do not want to see Carriages taken out, I was actually saying I just wish they were implemented into the game more effectively and had a real purpose. I think you might have read that comment out of context.

representing the voice of the minority we just don't give a flying rats scat end about fast travel cause let's face it humans as a species are lazy so why should we go through 1 or more loading screens just to get to a carriage.

That said my khajiit characters all walk or travel by carriage or on all 4 paws if I'm a werewolf which I do prefer an I should do considering I spent about 60 game hours as a wolf without transforming back even after killing dragons I'd just hunt an kill.

That's my preference though an yes theirs no point in having carriages at all hell no point in having horses either.

 An argument over personal taste. How meserizing. Don't like it then don't use it. Leave it for the people who like jumping across the map when they want to or don't have the time to 'hoof it' as I sometimes don't. I've stopped FT for the most part because I WANT to RP the long walk and have seen things walking I didn't know were there so FT is what I DON"T want to do usually. It's called "Self Control".

Sometimes I use the carriages from my HF homes, it's called "Role play".

When I DON'T WANT to walk or run because of time contstraints I FT, Its called "Choice". Exercise it.

It makes no sense to cut something from the game people find convenient. I would like hard core to be optional but not all people do. It's called "Personal preference"

Really OP I see no need to get vehement over a personal preference.

To make it clear once again: I do not want them to take fast traveling out of the game, I simply think it would make sense to EVER SO SLIGHTLY restrain the ability to the use of Carriages. That was the point of this topic. Think about it: would the game be as fun if there was an easily attainable all-powerful weapon that could kill any enemy instantaneously? NO, because it takes the challenge out of it. It is the same with fast traveling.

There already are weapons like that though...

And your argument isn't taking much ground either. I'd drop it if I were you, which I'm doing myself right now because, honestly, it's going nowhere.
