fatal flaw in skyrim that's going to take it from epic to me

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 6:22 pm

just been watching the footage on youtube for skyrim and am really excited about this game. But then I noticed one of the shouts is going to slow down time and the alarm bells went off. If you've ever played the original fable on xbox, you'll remember enjoying the game up until you learned this "time warp" spell. Then it was the "I win" button and game was so simple it was a joke. Take this shout out of the game and don't look back bethesda, I'm telling you right now it's going to be the "I win" button and mess up an otherwise stellar game. Some of you will say "well then just don't use it, you can use the other shouts and ignore it".... but can you. Each time you come to a super hard boss it's always going to be in the back of your mind. Take for instance the otherwise ruined forza 3, sure you didn't have to use the rewind time option if you went off the road, pffft sure, no one used that after racing hard for 10 minutes then went off the road did they! Bethesda, don't let your game slip quickly into mediocrity, take it out take it out take it out take it out!

It has a cooldown timer. The game is going to be balanced by release, and if it isn't, it'll be patched. Keep your panties on.

I scoff in your general direction for even comparing Bethesda's games to Fable. Morrowind and Oblivion were both FULL of "I win" buttons and they were still great games.

Yeah... no. It'll have a cool-down, plus the fact that it only lasts about one second in real-time.

One of the things oblivion lacked massively was huge spells that profoundly influenced your game style... I can't wait to slow down time and start firing arrows rapidly.

You're not supposed to play these games with a mind of complete succession, the game isn't designed to be 'won' it's designed to be 'played'.

Maybe you should just turn the difficulty slider up so it doesn't help you that much.

You can't hold down the slow time button and use it indefinetly like in fable, its going to have an extreemely long cooldown and you'll find yourself only using it once per day or only on really hard enemies.

TES games arnt really ones known for their difficulty or well balanced gameplay, sadly.

And can people stop with the "YOU ARNT FORCED TO USE IT" replies? They contribute nothing and they are a terrible point of view. If theres content in the game that is absurdly powerful its nice to have it balanced so that I (and others who appreciate games not being terribly easy) can use it without the game difficulty settings defaulting to 'My First RPG'.

Hope your right, or else OP could have a point. Even with cool down and 1 sec OP could have a point...not sure

For the love of god. People who play this game a typically supposed to be far more intelligent than this.

*ahem*ITS OPTIONAL.

You think its too much? dont use it, no need to [censored] about something you are not forced to use.

You should see how your post is applying to yourself.

Quoting myself here..

"Dont like it dont use it" isnt a fix, its not even a work around. I dont want to stop and think "if I use that will the game become incredibly easy?" all the time. The point of myself and others wanting balanced content is so that we can use all the content and have a real choice in what we do. I shouldnt have to be picking things out that I feel are balanced gameplay so that the game doesnt become easy. If you dont want a challenge set the game to easy difficulty. Dont force your cakewalk on all of us with broken abilities.

If you actually needed the time stop to get 'I win' in Fable, you were playing it wrong. The games are designed to be enjoyable, not hard.

Anyway, cooldowns (longer for more powerful shouts), needing to kill three dragons, needing to find the right walls with the three words of this shout, having to charge it up to get the mid and high level of the shout. Good luck as well with using it on a dragon, and hoping to take all it's hit points out before the timer runs out.
