Fate & Destiny

Post » Sat May 17, 2014 10:01 pm

Fate & Destiny aren't the stripers at the gentleman's club.

Fate
1. Force predeterming events

Destiny
1.Somebodys preordained future

I have heard comparisions of the two words over the years but by definition they mean the same thing . Something that predermines events.

Could your path already be ploted out for you by the nines or what ? Explain.

Fate is a spiderweb that ensnares you the more you struggle. Destiny is nothing more than probability.

I believe in neither. Nothing keeps me along a pre-set path, my way through life are the results of my own decisions.

But May 4th is this weekend, oh OK.

I woud say that Fate and Destiny go hand-in-hand 80% of the time.

Well, if every particle's next state can be predicted with 100% accuracy based on it's current state, it means the universe is deterministic, and that everything that has ever happened in it, or will ever happen in it, was decided at the Big Bang :hehe:

It's not a matter of belief, it's science  (If that "if" is true.)

I believe in personal fate but your free will is what will determined your actions, and shape you in this life. Being aware of who you are, your problems, your attachments, talents, and mental tendencies will set you free. Without self-awareness there is no true freedom and you'll be nothing but a plaything of your inner demons, unaware of why you act a certain way; a leaf blowing in the wind without no direction, and at the mercy of whatever comes in life.

It can't. There's a law of physics that says so.

To me, you shape your fate and destiny with the actions you do today.

You have the freedom to do what you want today but what you do today will create your fate and destiny which will be impossible to avoid and you will have to face on your own.

For example, breaking the law. If you break a law (especially a major one like murder) you basically just made your future, no matter how long it will take... You will eventually face the law for what you've done and you will be unable to avoid it, thusly stuck with your fate..

Our thoughts are just chemical reactions in our brain. And those chemical reactions can only happen in ONE particular way depending on the circumstances. So every time you make a bad choice, comfort yourself that it was the only choice you could make ;) ....maybe...

Freewill is a Myth. There is a reason that we each have things we are good at. Use your talents, build on them.

They do not exist anymore than free will does. The universe is not deterministic, as quantum physics tells us and people have very little control over what action they take. Under a given circumstance most actions are determined by the outcome of previous experience which have programmed us with a like or avoid mechanism. Also, there is good evidence suggesting that actions are initiated before the mind has the chance to fully evaluate incoming signals. It's mostly a matter of reflex. What we do appear to have is "Free won't", the abiliity to procrastinate or cancel an intitiated action.

As well as Godels incompleteness theorem from mathematics. A perfect understanding of all information that exists is likely impossible.

I don't believe it, since there can't possibly (probably) be one and only one ending that's determined by fate. I can change my choices anytime, and the consequences would be drastically different in some cases. Unless im somehow misinterpreting the words.

A lot of things in my life make me want to believe there is some kind of predestiny as well as a force that loves to see me suffer as I can often call something bad and it'll happen and it'll be no surprise to me. But that conflicts with my religious views. But it makes me wonder sometimes.

This topic is a bit over my head.. Most of the time I find it hard to see any room for freewill though.

No, it does not exist any more than free will does. It's easy to become deluded and give value to arbitrary events and see them as significant if you're already in the mindset that your life is predestined, and at that point you're becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy, so if you expect [censored] to hit the fan it most likely will because you're limiting and restricting yourself to a specific negative mindset.

If you're stupid that is. I certainly don't hope that anyone actually lives their life like that.

That is pretty much my feeling, too.

I would hate to think that no matter what I do, my fate is predetermined. Then, the fun comes trying to say, "But Fate/Destiny knew you were going to do that!" Now, I am trying to "trick Fate" and pull something over :)

I also do not think I am "that special" in the Universe to warrant a "Fate" :D

Sometimes do this :( I notice a lot of coincidences or "synchronicity" as "stupid" people like Carl Jung call it

I would think the universe giving you free will would make you more special.

So when we commit evil, [censored], murder, massacres, that is destiny or fate? So it's ok that someone killed/murdered your family? It's ok that someone drinks and drives and kills someone because it is out of their control? So someone killed your loved one should be set free because it was already set in stone and not his/her fault because it was destiny and or fate that did it?

No. We are all in control of our actions. To say other wise is an excuse just so you can do something wrong and get away with it.
