Fate of the Mad God

Post » Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:23 am

First off, a couple of people posted saying that Bethesda should "focus on another Daedric Prince/Realm". This is NOT what I'm talking about. I'm not saying Bethesda should make a "Shivering Isles 2", I'm merely speculating as to whether or not they'll do a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Daedric_Quests http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Daedric_Quests of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Daedric_Quests and if so, how might they pull it off in light of the events of Shivering Isles.

I REALLY liked the Shivering Isles and how Sheogorath was portrayed in Oblivion in general. The only problem is since he

turned back into Jygalag, the God of Order
, leaving the "Hero of Kvatch" to take his place (I think the last bit was publicized enough to not be considered a spoiler-and it's key to this discussion anyway), it leaves the idea of any future appearances of a "Price of Madness" and an awesomely strange quest given to the player from his Daedric shrine in question. The big question is how this is going to be handled "in cannon"-will they establish that the Hero of Kvatch actually did take up the mantle, and if so how would they handle the fact that the character could be any gender or race? Could it be that the character is eventually transformed somehow? Would it be bad to do anything like this at all because it's setting that character's fate in stone whereas your "Hero of Kvatch" might have avoided the quest altogether.

Then again, they don't necessarily have to state that the "New Madgod" was the Hero of Kvatch, much like your character in Morrowind maybe didn't even touch the Main Quest, in which case you could just role play that someone else ends up being the Nerevarine. Likewise in Oblivion it's possible that your character goes through the Shivering Isles quest without becoming The Hero of Kvatch either. They could give the Daedric statue a strange androgynous-sounding voice, or just have it be Haskill or something.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on how a Sheogorath Daedric quest might be handled in Skyrim, or if you think there will be one at all. Might there also be a new type of Daedric quest involving a certain other Prince that's finally managed to resurface in the realm of Oblivion?

Spoiler

If memory serves it was generally accepted that you (Nerevar) killed Almalexia ( possibly in the pocket guide to the empire ).

So even if you didn't play through Tribunal, these events took place.

Therefore I see no problem with the 'Hero of Kvatch' remaining the Prince of Madness.

However, If that is the case, I highly doubt you'll see him. If it involves Sheogorath though... anything could happen :shakehead:

I thought it was generally understood that the main character became the prince of madness

I'm on the Mad God's side. Remember the quest where you had to remake the staff. It was saying how Jyggy (what I call him, he's so pointy >.>) had the library that calculated anything. Sheo was like "free will or something can't be calculated" and destroyed it. I support that. I hate order and routine >.>.

Also, if the daedric gods were afraid of Jyggy before, what about now? Especially since he knows they are/were against him before.

Bethesda generally has something happen to the hero of the previous game so that you won't see them in the next game (i.e. the Nerevarine going to Akavir), so I have a feeling that's what they were doing when they made the Champion of Cyrodiil into Sheogorath.

You never know though.

I'm deep under the impression that the CoC is the new Sheogorath. However, the role grows on the CoC, and it'll appear as though Sheogorath had always been there as the bearded madman (yes, even if you were a female).

Well, many Daedric Princes are interpretted differently depending on races and the groups within races. For example, Boethia is male or female, depending on where you are! They might just do the same with the Mad God. Though I'm leaning more towards Sheogorath retaining his form. After all, the Hero of Kvatch doesn't have to go around announcing the change! Statues would have to change, everywhere!

This would make the most sense if you ask me - the CoC assumes Sheogorath's throne, and in doing so, ultimately become him. Remember that the Daedric princes are ideas and concepts, not particular entities. Sheogorath being the embodiment of madness and creativity. I'm sure that, by the time of Skyrim, the CoC will more or less be identical to the previous Sheogorath. That would be the most lore-friendly as well, instead of having Bethesda trying to cram something down our throats like "the canonical CoC was an Argonian, the new Sheogorath is a lizard with a beard".

That would be kinda funny...a lizard with a beard. :D anyways I would like to see the mad god again and do some work for him.

Hmm...What if it could go into your old Oblivion files, find what your character looked like as Sheogorath but more sheogorath-y than normal.

OR

You could have the new Sheogorath be semi-androginous, with a mask.

a lizard with a beard? thats MADNESS! :P

seriously, though... i think the character probably will take the form of sheogorath again, because as long as sheogorath's realm still exists, as well as artifacts he created, he likely will take control of the champion's body, and be reborn.

that would make the most sense, considering what we know of the daedra... so i hope by the time skyrim is set in, sheogorath will have fully regenerated... cause that madman is my FAVORITE of all the daedra... there is NOTHING in the entire world quite as enjoyable as utter madness! :mohawk:

I think having a game go through your files is illegal. You could have the statue wear a mask, and maybe have Haskill do the talking?

I feel as though the CoC becoming Sheogorath was Beth's way of getting rid of the CoC so no one could interact with him as the same person again, like how the Nerevarine went to Akavir, and the Daggerfall agent got stomped on.

I'm more inclined to say that a new daedra is born. The Champion of Cyrodil doesn't have to be mad god in the traditional sense. A new personality has the throne, and doesn't necessarily have to embrace madness.

I would sure wet my pants if Bethseda implemented some subtle and witty dialogue asking about your 'historical' knowledge of the CoC. Something reminiscent of Knights of the Old Republic 2 or Mass Effect 2. Your dialogue choices determine what happened.

Most likely there will be vague and mysterious references to some newly discovered daedra.

I doubt we'll actually meet Sheogorath within the game but he'll almost certainly be referenced and have a quest or two revolving around him, probably for a shrine, or else for someone who has been sent by Sheogorath to carry out some task.

I think that the CoC became Sheogorath after holding the position for so long.

Walk like him until he walks like you, so to speak.

I think somewhere it was inferred that everyone in SI saw you as Sheo, as in to them you looked like him, you spoke like him, etc. or something like that, I can't remember.

I think if there would be any daedric quests, plots, realms end cetera in skyrim they should be focused more on other daedric deities.
Oblivion was totally focused on mehrunes dagon and his realm, shivering isles was an expansion tottaly dedicated to sheogorath so i find it more appealing to have someone and something new.

I was mainly focusing on whether or not there would be a "Daedric Shrine" quest similar to the ones featured in every main Elder Scrolls title since (I think) Daggerfall (I don't remember reading about any being in Arena). True, the exactly set of Daedra featured has varied somewhat from game to game but Sheogorath has always been in there one way or another. I think with the success of the Shivering Isles expansion they'd be foolish to not try and come up with a way to work a Sheogorath Daedric quest into Skyrim somehow-it's mostly a question of how to work around the fact that the player character from Oblivion becomes Sheogorath and exactly what their "fate" is in that regard. Do the other Daedra recognize the CoC (what does that stand for anyway?) as a "proper God", or does some kind of dispute end up coming about? The Sheogorath quest in vanilla Oblivion alone was one of the more memorable, I'd say it ranks up there with Vaermina's quest. I hope they come up with something just as wild and imaginative for Skyrim.

Adventurer leaves offering and asks for an audience...

Haskil picks up the Grummite Answering Horn to talk out of to the new adventurer................Uh sorry Sheogorath is busy in the Shivering Isles. Please leave a message after the horn. Oh wait we could use a bit of help the Lord left a small to do list that they apparently forgot to do, or maybe they didn't and meant it for someone else. Anyways it needs to be done or I'm not sure what will happen.
