Faulty Install?

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 2:42 am

I installed Oblivion once before, tested a bunch of mods, installing them recklessy without reading proper installation techniques or using Wrye Bash. Obviously my game had some troubles, CTDS, glitches, and stuff that was all from my own doing. So i deleted the necessary folders, uninstalled the game and went about with a clean and proper installation. I installed the unofficial patches, Wrye Bash, BOSS, OBMM and OBSE. However when i go to open up OBMM it says the BSA could not be loaded and that the .ini could not be found. I found out that i needed to actually load up the game so that the .ini could activate properly. However the game starts to load then crashes before the screen even goes black to start the game. I try to uninstall the game and it seems that the uninstallion executable file cannot be found and to go to it from the start up disc. However on the start up disc it shows the executable file, but with no program to run it. Almost as though the game never installed, how can i remove the game and start over?

If you are planning on reinstalling then delete your Oblivion folder and everything in it manually. Then delete your configuration settings (they are located in the same folder as your saved games, and are called "Oblivion" too. Manually explore your Oblivion disc and activate the setup (installshield) to clean out any leftovers. When the program has removed Oblivion from your system, then you should be able to begin a fresh install.

Okay so ive activated windows and the problem persists. I attempt to Uninstall from the splash screen and it tells me it cant be found and to run the setup.exe from the original disc. I go run the setup.exe on the original disc and after 1-3 mins of loading it says that the original disc could not be authenticated. Whats the deal?

After running the uninstaller, manually delete the following if they still exist:

1) Delete your root Oblivion folder (the one containing Oblivion.exe).
2) Delete your ..My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder (back up your saves to another folder first if you want).
3) Delete your ..Documents and Settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Oblivion folder.

Now you have no traces of Oblivion left on your system. If you still can't install Oblivion fresh from the disc, make sure your disc is genuine.

When i initially uninstalled Oblivion i went through and deleted all of those folders. Then i reinstalled Oblivion and installed some basic utilities as well as the unofficial patches, however the game would not let me play. I figured something had gone wrong in installation so i tried to use the Uninstall feature on the splash screen. I followed the steps to the setup.exe on the disc and tried to run it but it says that it cannot find the original disc. I assume my game is genuine because for one I bought it from Gamestop and also ive had it installed and working fine before.

Ive looks throughout the forums and the used the techniques in the Unofficial Technical Thread to try and remove by game via the registry and also by booting up in Safe-mode. However neither of these techniques worked for me. In fact, no traces of the game were even found in the registry and trying to remove the program via the Control Panel results in nothing happening. Please help, I think i may need to contact Bethesda

Ive been receiving a lot of responses but what Im trying to do is remove a corrupted installation. Ive looked over and tried many fixes but the game will not run the uninstaller or the setup.exe on the disc. The game doesnt appear in the registry and the program will not be removed from the Control Panel. Something is very wrong.

The issue was pretty crazy seems as though when my Windows activation time ran up i tried to install Oblivion, made some of the dates read 2007 and also screwed up their registry placement i guess. Downloaded a program and fixed it in moments. Thread can be closed if need be.
