Fav weapon in New Vegas

Post » Sun Apr 25, 2010 5:20 pm

i'll say it's a tie between the Bumper Sword and the Hunting Revolver. But i do love the variety of all weapons in NV... especially with the addition of crafting & ammo types.

I have a lot of favorite guns, but your mention of the bumper sword reminded me of something I've thought of often before, while playing NV- why are there no real swords? Not the ridiculous kind like the bumper, or the mini-swords the Legion uses (machetes and gladius)... but a nice, beautiful cavalry saber, or 3-foot straightsword, that sort of thing. Or a samurai sword- there are plenty of those in existence in this country, even in RL. Surely they would be included in the hodge-podge armoratorium of post-apocalyptia. Other than Chance's combat knife, there are no melee weapons in the game that do anything for me, aesthetically. Ugly crap. Time for some nice looking swords, baybee! Maybe the inclusion of those would make me stick to a melee build... too boring otherwise.

They did its called 5.57mm Pistol.

Hehe. A 5.57 bullet is roughly the same diameter as a .22 rimfire. In other words, its a small but zippy little sliver of lead. The Desert Eagle most popularly known is the .50 caliber model. When you look down the barrel of one, you could almost believe you could crawl inside it and hide, it looks as big as a culvert. The NV 5.57 pistol is in no way any kind of imitation of a Desert Eagle

idk, there are a couple in FO3... It definitly woulda been awesome/funny to find an old Samurai Sword in a abandoned Vegas pawn shop, along with other antique goodies. IMO there's a pretty good/varied selection of unarmed and melee weapons, though... despite the lack of swords

Hmmm, It's best if I go buy tier.

Handgun Tier: 10mm with a silencer, with the silenced 12.7mm pistol coming in at second.
Submachine Gun Tier- Meh, don't care for them to be honest. If anything, I use the silenced 12.7mm submachine gun, but it's rare I do.
Rifle Tier- Cowboy Repeater, fully modded
Heavy Duty Tier- Silenced Sniper Rifle

Hand Gun: Maria, Not the most damage but in close i use melee or unarmed anyway, it's situational.
Long Gun: This Machine, durable, easy repair, good damage and PING! Also hand load or AP ammo makes bigger targets die.
Melee: Tie. Knock Knock, great for sneak crits on Deathclaws, Nephi's driver great for VATS sneak crits on fiends using Fore! attack. Endless giggles there.
Energy: Don't like em, the unique ones go on display in my Lucky 38 Suite.
Explosives: Oddly enough, regular and long fuse dynamite combo, throw the long fuse one short and the regular one at the enemy and watch em get banged twice on the way in.
Unarmed: Love and Hate. The name is cheesy, but they look cool and do nice damage for the low weight.

Single shotgun. Doesn't really matter that it's single shot when it reloads so quick. Slugs give it enough range and the open sights are easy to headshot with when they're moving. It doesn't block half the screen when you carry it and it headshots geckos like it was made for the job. Oh wait, it was.

Weathered 10mm pistol. If they are still alive and inside slug range, this one takes them down. And it's silenced to boot. A really nice job, too 'cuz you can't even tell by looking.

.50 cal Anti-Materiel with incendiary ammo. I like all half-inch ammo, sure, but a bullet that will kill a deathclaw outright, leave his corpse in flames, and I can't even see him unless I hold the scope in the same spot for a minute or so? And it starts him on fire? That's just plain cool.

Ratslayer. As others know, it's light, quiet, and surprisingly powerful. Sometimes, if I'm afraid I can't kill it outright, I'll just shoot an arm or leg off with the Ratslayer. That works a LOT more often than any other gun. Well, except for the .50 with the whole fire thing, but the Ratslayer is subtle. Folks are sitting around enjoying ill-gotten gains, when out of nowhere limbs start flying off their buddies. And I don't have to worry because they have no clue where I am. Even when they are close, target a couple limbs in VATS and it's over pretty quick.

My newest favorite weapon is the post-patch silenced .22 pistol. That added crit chance and crit damage, plus The Professional perk makes this actually a pretty good weapon. I've made it all the way to Vegas, first going by the NW route (Yay! It kills Cazadors!), and then going back around the "normal" route. I was actually getting one shot kills on bighorners with it yesterday. Fun.

My favorite weapon is a hunting rifle with all possible mods. It's so satisfying to hear the shot crack, and to see your enemy's head crack.

That's how I'm playing it. Sneak/crit spy guy. Like 007, but more like 003 1/2.

It's fun, but I had more fun with it and the bullet sponges from FO3. I used to play Overlord Pong. I guess I could play deathclaw pong in NV, but there just ain't that many deathclaws.

The AER14 Prototype Laser Rifle. Cause it's hard-wearing (has more than double the health of a normal laser rifle), fast, and accurate, and packs a punch
with max-charged cells.

Gatling Laser. Good mods, I use regular ammo most of the time which is good enough with a high luck+better criticals+finesse+laser commander
I save the overcharged cells for when I am swarmed by tougher foes.

Plasma Grenades Cause it makes a big mess

YCS/186 Gauss Rifle For sniping and looks cool in VATS

I think he meant the 12.7mm Pistol.

Probably. But the 12.7 pistol really doesn't come across as being the King of Magnum Hand Cannons, though. It just goes 'bang' and shoots a bullet. A powerful bullet, but you don't get the feeling that the gun is anything special. And it looks like puke, to be honest. Both of the 12.7mm weapons are so downright fugly that my chars are embarrassed to be seen with them. Now a true .50 caliber magnum pistol, like the Desert Eagle, should kick like a mule (visualize a 1-handed AMR recoil... lol) make a really loud bang, and drop things like it was the Ranger Sequoia's big daddy. The recoil alone and limited shots would make it poor as a rapid-fire street-sweeper weapon, of course- but as a situational weapon that could blow most opponents across the room with one shot in the brisket... who cares? Now that, I would like to see.....

Clint stood erect at the entrance to the Quarry, mildly displeased with himself for having only wounded the massive Alpha Deathclaw at long range, with his saddlegun. As the onrushing beast rocked the canyon walls with its bellowed rage and came at him like a two-ton mountain of implacable clawed doom, he carefully relit his cigar before drawing out the Desert Eagle from its holster. Squinting intently, he carefully leveled the heavy weapon's front sight on the middle of the deathclaw's chest as it rapidly closed the distance between them. Taking a deep breath, he uttered these immortal words... "Come on, b****, make my day!"

/cut to Chet's general store in Goodsprings: Clint: "Whaddaya mean, only 20 caps for these perfect alpha claws?!? Why you cheap little wuss, I oughta just take you along as bait, on my next hunt... .."

I actaully really like the 12.7 guns. I like their futuristic look and the pistol has a surprisingly low AP cost. I like the machine gun with hollow point bullets, it's good againt those pesky cazadores.

I love Anti-Material rifle. It kills every enemy in one shot, and it pulverizes small targets like a raider or a NCR trooper.
