Favored Demi-God

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:26 pm

Since my "Favorite Gods" thread is dieing, I'll start with a newer poll.

Who is your favorite Mortal god?

Obviously my lore is a little sketchy, so if there are others besides these, tell me and I'll add their names. Even some exceptions are fine, such as Dagoth Ur.

I'll have to pick Sotha on this one.

I don't see Umaril, Morihaus, Pelinal Whitestrake, or Reman Cyrodiil.

Would the Nerevarine count as a demi-god?

Pelenal (Or whoever) Is just a crusader, not a god.

Umaril is just an immortal-made Sorcerer, not really a god.

I only added Dagoth Ur since he is always brought up in conversations between the 3 main Demi-Gods. If it bothers you that much, I'll remove him.

Pelinal is the reincarnation of Shezarr/Shor/Lorkhan.

Umaril's father is a god from the previous kalpa.

Technically, Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil are just mortals made immortal, so Umaril achieved immortality from a divine source as Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil did, although Umaril was semi-divine to begin with.

I'll add Umaril then, but I can't find anything on Pelinal being the reincarnate of Shezarr. Have a source?

Well actually, they're all gods in the full sense of the word, aren't they? Some may be only temporarily, but still a full god nonetheless.

Vivec was amazing. I loved his sorrow for murdering Nerevar, his wisdom, his ways of making up for his sins, and he's the only Morrowind god to not go insane. (Not too sure on Sotha Sil)

Vivec has to be my favourite, following up with Sotha Sil as a close second.

My most hated demi-god/god has to be Tiber Septim. Yeah, let's encourage unnessecary hatred towards the Orcs! Let's think I'm better than everyone else and ascend to godhood! Even though if anyone else tries it (Tribunal) they'll not be good enough for it, and we'll need to send someone to stop them! It may just be because I hate the nobles of the Empire. Especially emporers. Bloody good for nothing invading superioritists... (goes into an old man rant)

He is a mortal avatar of Shezarr, but not exactly Shezarr himself. In his championing of mankind, his hatred of mer, his strange features, and his immortal spirit, he is definitely a Shezarrine, no question about it.

Hellmouth, Lady Nerevar, where are you two when I need you?

I voted Umaril. Not really the most well-thought-out plan (I and a handful of weak minions will singlehandedly conquer all of Tamriel!), but he just brought so much energy to his world-ending machinations. :P Plus, coolness points by association because Meridia's accent is sixy.

I'm gonna go with Umaril, I never really cared about either the ALMSIVI or Dagoth when I played Morrowind, Reman sounds interesting from the ingame lore books, and I liked Umaril as an enemy in the NoTN questline.

If not then Vivec, because as others said he actually showed remorse for his mistakes

The Entire Tribunal and Dagoth Ur. Why does he have to be called such foul names? He is Lord Voryn Dagoth. Does nobody listen?

Sotha Sil. He's just the coolest guy in the 2920 series.

“It cannot be fixed now,” said the sorcerer quietly.
He looked up through a crick in the ceiling into the night sky. It was midnight. The second era, the age of chaos, had begun.

You, Jiub. Support me on this, pretty please? Isn't Pelinal a Shezarrine?

Hm... I'm not as knowledgeable of the Imperial mythology (the Nine Divines and so on), but here's my best guess. According to the Song of Pelinal, Kyne (who was the widow of Shor, who was in turn the Nordic variant of Lorkhan, who Shezarr is also a variant of) gave Alessia a red diamond (unrelated, I think, to the Amulet of Kings) that could turn into Pelinal Whitestrake. ("Kyne granted Perrif another symbol, a diamond soaked red with the blood of elves, [whose] facets could [un-sector and form] into a man whose every angle could cut her jailers and a name: PELIN-EL [which is] "The Star-Made Knight" [and he] was arrayed in armor [from the future time].)". The "Star-Made Knight" certainly implies some divine intervention in his creation, so the idea that he is an avatar of a god (Shezarr) seems likely. More misc. quotes from the Song of Pelinal:

"Perrif's falconers had sent for the Nords, and they, looking at him, said that Shor had returned, but he spat at their feet for profaning that name.

"It is a solid truth that Morihaus was the son of Kyne, but whether or not Pelinal was indeed the Shezarrine is best left unsaid (for once Plontinu, who favored the short sword, said it, and that night he was smothered by moths). It is famous, though, that the two talked of each other as family, with Morihaus as the lesser, and that Pelinal loved him and called him nephew, but these could be merely the fancies of immortals."

"[And it is] said that he emerged into the world like a Padomaic, that is, borne by Sithis and all the forces of change therein. Still others, like Fifd of New Teed, say that beneath the Pelinal's star-armor was a chest that gaped open to show no heart, only a red rage shaped diamond-fashion, singing like a mindless dragon, and that this was proof that he was a myth-echo, and that where he trod were shapes of the first urging."

"'O Aka, for our shared madness I do this! I watch you watching me watching back! Umaril dares call us out, for that is how we made him!'" (Direct quote from Pelinal in the same literature)

So the Nords believed him to be a reincarnation of Shor (remember, Shor-->Lorkhan-->Shezarr), he was made by Kyne, Shor's widow, Morihaus referred to him as family, and, most importantly, he himself refers to Akatosh familiarly and implies that he was part of the creation of Mundus. It seems logical that he could be the Shezarrine, but I don't want to be suffocated by a swarm of moths, so I'll leave it at that. Sorry if this doesn't make perfect sense, I wrote it in bits and pieces.

I thought in the quest they said that Umaril was a daedra or something. I'm probably wrong.

Anyway, I know that, as long as the heart of lorkhan powers them, the tribunal are considered man-gods. But, once it's destroyed, they are mortal again.

I was boring and picked Vivec, just because I've read the most stories on him and I like his stories. Almalexia is just a hairy faminist and Sotha Sil is just a dead guy hanging on some sticks.

Dagoth Ur sounds like Charlton Heston, but I still like Vivec more.

I never met Umaril because I never finished that Knights of the Nine quest (came close, though). And I don't know what a Morihaus is.

Umaril is actually half-Ayleid, half-god(father from the previous kalpa, but not sure who his father really is). Umaril did connect himself to the Daedric Prince Meridia(explains the Aurorans, Meridia's minions), which gives him a Daedric nature and allows his soul to come back from the waters of Oblivion unchanged. By blood, he's not known to be Daedric.

Morihaus is a Cyrodiilic god-hero who is also known as Morihaus the man-bull. He is often connected to Kynareth and is said to be Alessia's lover and companion as well as Pelinal's companion during the Cyrodiilic human revolts. Here are some sources involving mention of him:

"Also during the Late Merethic Era the legendary immortal hero, warrior, sorceror, and king variously known as Pelinal Whitestrake, Harrald Hairy Breeks, Ysmir, Hans the Fox, etc., wandered Tamriel, gathering armies, conquering lands, ruling, then abandoning his kingdoms to wander again." http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Before_the_Ages_of_Man#The_Merethic_Era
