Favorite 80s movie

Post » Sat Jul 16, 2016 12:29 am

There are a lot of 80s movies I adore and seen multiple times so picking one absolute favorite is damn hard. I have probably over 1000 movies on DVD/blu-ray and a very large chunk of them are from the 80s. And I have almost every movie mentioned so far in the thread too :P

Although I suppose I should mention http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086465/, since it's possibly the 80s movie I've seen the most. My aunt had it on a VHS tape and I used to watch it almost every time I was there, and I was there a lot back when I was a kid.

Good one, have it on blu-ray, but I am a bit surprised to see it mentioned here :P

That's a great list! Add the others suggested and it gets even better. I'll add Big Trouble In Little China, too. Breakfast Club needs a mention as my Army platoon used to play drinking games with that one

PS: I got BTILC on Blu-Ray and my son was heard mumbling, "They'll put anything on Blu-Ray these days..."

A lot of my favourites have been mentioned, including The Thing, but John Carpenter made a ton of great movies in the eighties, including Prince of Darkness and They Live, which are two of my favourites.

Otherwise I have a hard time picking out what's from the eighties and what's not. Though for some reason no one in this thread has yet mentioned the greatest Christmas movie of all time: Die Hard.

This, one of the very few movies that I know of from the '80s that I watch somewhat regularly, along with the Last Crusade. There's also the first Star Wars trilogy, 2nd and 3rd movies are from the '80s. :P

Tons of movies are already listed, but there are some legendary movies that I, shamefully, haven't watched, like the Blade Runner.

if only as the inspiration of Team America World Police. haha, the ending of Megaforce is probably the most hilarious shot.

Full Metal Jacket

Predator

The Lost Boys

Robocop

Batteries not included

Innerspace

The Last Emperor

Prince of Darkness

The Witches of Eastwick

Roxanne

Die Hard

Beetlejuice

They Live

Rain Man

Dangerous Liaisons

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Dead Poets Society

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Weekand at Bernie's

When Harry Met Sally

Tango & Cash

The War of the Roses

Dead Calm

And these are from 87,88 and 89 only. The whole decade is probably more impressive.

(According to imdb, I didn't see many movies from this decade and 87 is my highest rated year.)

I thought of a few more that I should have listed last night (for my time zone)-

Ghostbusters

Lethal Weapon

Robocop

Beetlejuice

The Great Outdoors

Stripes

Fletch

Spies Like Us

Blade Runner

Something else that I thought of, there were a lot more movies that I thought were great back during the eighties and even into the nineties, but I'm not sure if they all hold up as well. Last Halloween I watched Monster Squad on Netflix and realised it was a lot more of a kid-friendly movie than I thought it was.

Speaking of Netflix, it's been suggesting that I watch Crocodile Dundee for a while, but I might ruin the childhood joy I got from it around thirty years ago. :( Times have changed.

There are a LOT of great movies listed here. Some I thought may have been late 70's, but see they were released in the 80's. My "nostalgia bug" is itching something fierce :)

Don't bother. It's overrated and the book is much better.

I always felt that Blade Runner was a bit like a nice slice of cake. I looked good was made from great ingredients and tasted nice,

but, there was always the feeling that the baker could have produced something better.

I have lots of copies of Blade Runner including the badly scanned 1st video version. I even bought special edition in a sale which

consists of various different cuts of the film , I have never looked at them, because I have never broken the seal of the tin that they came in.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is one of my favourite books. The book was fun, but the film was a bit miserable.
