Favorite and Least Favorite Cities in Oblivion

Post » Fri Nov 12, 2010 5:02 pm

I was bored so I made this poll... Which cities did you like in Oblivion? Which did you hate? Why?

What are you looking for city-wise in the Elder Scrolls V?

Chorral was my favorite. The atmosphere was pleasant, the scenery is great, the town feels bigger than the others, and all my favorite quests and NPC's are near-by.

Cheydinhal was my least favorite. Aside from giving me the creeps (what with the vampires and brotherhood and all), the whole town seems on edge. Plus, there isn't a whole lot in the area.

My favorite town would probably be Leyawiin - I liked the swampy atmosphere and colored houses. Reminded me of Daggerfall. :P

I never liked Chorrol for whatever reason. Too flat. Too open.

New Sheoth is my fav. It seems a lot bigger than it is, lots of buildings to climb (something that was difficult in most Oblivion cities), and very atmospheric.

I've always despised Bruma for a reason I can't quite put my finger on. The stone walls and chapel seem out of place, I think, and the layout is annoying, I suppose...

My favorite is the Imperial City and my least favorite is Kvatch. Kvatch is just a smoldering ruin.

I can't help but love Anvil, the scenery reminds me of home. There needs to be a poll on favorite places for assassinations, though. My fondest memories of those would be in Bruma, or the Imperial City Waterfront. I hated Kvatch... I wish we could have seen what the city was like before the Oblivion gate popped up and ruined everyone's picnic.

Favorite would be Bruma, only snow covered city in the game and along with Anvil, has the most unique architecture.

Least favorite would be Kvatch, I wish they would have re-built it but without mods it's useless basically.

Favorite is Anvil. I love the "city by the water" setting.

Least favorite is Bravil, simply because it's an ass-ugly slum filled with skooma addicts.

I liked Anvil the best, because it was well designed and laid out and had good variation.

Least liked was Emperial City. I guess it was ok, but for a capital it was small, uninspired and extremely underwhelming.

It varies, depending on what character I'm playing.

However, at the moment, Anvil is my favourite. Helena and I often go sit by the ocean and watch the sun set before heading home to read a book and have some dinner.

Least favourite? I don't know really. The Imperial City I dislike because I can never find anything there outside of the Market District. I also dislike Chorrol, but I can't put my finger on why. It just doesn't feel like home.

My favorite city always varies depending on the character I'm playing. :) Chorrol, Cheydinhal and Skingrad are usually pretty high on the list.

And Bruma is my #1 most hated city regardless of what character I'm playing. All my characters hate Bruma. Snow. Cold. Ice. Icky! Eww!

Buffy really likes all the cities. She was born and raised in Bravil, and despite its humbleness, she loves it and the people that make it home. It is also home to her beloved Mara.
She is drawn to Kvatch. The survivors tell her what it was like. She is rather smitten by Savlian Matius and hopes to help him rebuild it.
Anvil is beautiful and she feels like on holiday there. Sunsets and beaches, yummy. B)
She loves the IC too, because that is home to her beloved Arcane University. :read:
Most of the rest of the cities have their own unique charm, and she enjoyes visiting them.

Exceptions:
Bruma is just too cold for a little wood elf, and she hates bundling up in furs to go there. :cold:
New Sheoth belongs to Sheogorath. Buffy is happy to explore the SI, but certainly will never again lift a finger to help Sheo - not after Borderwatch. :stare:

I voted New Sheoth in both categories, because, like Sheogorath, I'm in two minds about it.

Most favorite city - New Sheoth - I liked the 2 different sides and the wide veriety of People and quite a few quests in both sides
Least Favorite city - Imperial city - I liked the size but due to the lack of quests in the city I had little reason to go to the different parts.

Love Bruma. I like the snow covered chilly atmosphere and the cozy fires. I like the no-nonsense Nord people. They're friendly, but they say it how it is. I've spent more time in that city than any other.

Cheydinhal appeals to the other side of my personality. It is an asthetic beautiful setting with the weeping willows overhanging the banks of a gently meandering river. But it is complex and multilayered where things are not always what they appear. It must be the dunmer infuence (they remind me of Romulans). The city if full of intrigue. I am also sentimental about it because it is the very first city I visited in the game. Yet, I don't have any characters based there and haven't spent a whole lot of time there (but plan to one day).

I like Anvil okay. Used to hang out at the waterfront. Its a nice atmosphere and like hearing the gulls cry overhead. But, it stinks like rotting fish . . . or maybe that's just my imagination . . .

I don't like the IC. It is overwrought. It is underpopulated. It is too much trouble getting around, going from district to district (and waiting for loads). The maze-like sewers are underwhelming with lots of rats and mud crabs and only minimal loot.

I have mixed feelings about Skingrad. I kind of like the foggy atmosphere and the narrow alleys shadowed by looming stone buildings. But I've never quite felt at home there even though my main character lives at Rosenthorn.

Leyawin I also have mixed feelings about. I like the swamps and the pastel buildings. But, its in the boondocks. It's almost like another country. The human rights abuses (or Argonian rights abuses, rather) are appauling.

Haven't spent much time in Bravil. It has a bad rep. but I haven't decided. In any case it doesn't appeal to me for whatever reason.

Kvatch--well its destroyed, so what can I say. My outdoorsy healer/alchemist lives nearby at Shetcombe where she gathers ingredients and makes powerful potions, then she likes to walk barefoot up to the outdoor market (i.e., refugee camp) at Kvatch to sell her wares and socialize. So, yeah, Kvatch is still okay in my book.

I like Leyawiin because of the atmosphere and it seems like it's a very out of the way town,

I don't really have a least favourite, but what they should do in TES V is make more major cities, and have some be towns/cities for good characters and some be for evil. And also have different bounties, for each town, and if your bounty is high enough have it go into the other towns, I highly doubt any guard would hunt you down across Cyrodiil because you stole a crumpled piece of paper.

Skingrad, hands down. Now, I've only ever been to Bruma, Bravil, Skingrad, Chorrol and IC, but definitely like the southern France feel of Skingrad. Least favorite is IC. It feels cold, what with the flat stone face architecture and there's not much to do.

Favorite: I voted Cheydinhal. I don't know why. It has the nicest name, I guess.

Least favorite: Bravil. I just don't like its atmosphere.

In an unmodded game, I like Chorrol the best, it just has the best atmosphere and feel to it. I hate Anvil, in vanilla there's just nothing to do there and it seems so half built.

Yes, exactly. I don't quite "believe" Anvil as a port city. There's just not enough of it. One street and a boardwalk.

Chorrol is my favorite town, too. My favorite side quest (the Jemane brothers saga) starts there.

My favorite is Anvil. I just love the feeling of a port city, and the mansion is unique among the houses you can acquire. Cheydenhal is a close second for its river, bridges, and gracefully weeping trees.

Bravil never settled well with me. I don't hate it; I just like all the others better.

I enjoy every city :) Each one has a unique feeling.

-Bruma: I just love snow! I live in a hot country so I'd never seen snow, so Bruma is my dream. Cozy and warm houses made of wood... Aaaah, I want to live in Bruma :3

-Anvil: The whole Golden Coast is wonderful, the yellow blending with the blue of the sea and sky is beautiful and breath-taking. The castle, the harbor side, the ships, the lighthouse, love it!

-Chorrol: It has a nice feeling of a peaceful town, full of happy citizens. It feels bigger than any other city. I love stopping by The Oak and Crosier and have a good time.

-Skingrad: A mysterious city, with a different atmosphere. The big tall buildings, the secrets in the town, the count. It is a beautifully crafted town, the West Weald's red and green foliage spices up the place.

-Bravil: Depressing city, but that's not a bad thing. It is full of odd people and quests. It has an anarchist feeling.

-Leyawiin: I rarely explored Leyawiin in my playthroughs, maybe 'cus I hate swamps, but it doesn't mean I hate Leyawiin. It's kinda cool, but I wish I had explored it further.

-Kvatch: I loved battling through the scorched and destroyed city. It was very scary and epic. I wish we had the option to restore it (without mods).

-Cheydinhal: Weird, scary, dark and sad city to visit. It is a colorless and cold city. The Dark Brotherhood makes it even more creepy. I don't like the folk who lives there. But I like it for giving me this impression.

-Imperial City: Maybe the least I like, but it is still a great city. It could have been better though. It is massive, but most of it is empty. I really enjoyed walking through the Waterfront.

Rain, not so much. Thats why Layawiin is my least fave.

What a delightfully optimistic view, and one that my character shares! :goodjob:
