Favorite bands

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:05 pm

I was a bit bored, so I figured I would ask my default get to know you question. Besides, it might give some of us a couple of new bands to listen to. So yeah, woh are some of your favorites. I myself pretty much only listen to punk. Some of my favorite punk bands are Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, The Distillers, The Clash, Operation Ivy, Bad Brains, Henry Rollins Band, Less Than Jake, Rise Against, Rancid(at least the earlier stuff), The Casualties, and the Dropkick Murphy's. Some of the few bands that aren't punk I listen to out Queens of the Stoneage, The Thermals(great, but different indie band, check them out), Them Crooked Vultures, Cage the Elephant, Tool, Sublime, and Rage Against the Machine. Well those were mine. Your turn.

First I must say nice taste in music  . Can't go wrong with a little punk rock. I've been listening to Built to Spill, Fugazi, Pavement, and Black Flag lately so I guess those are my favorites for now.

Rubber Bands. I have to admit that's a stretch.

I had to reread the thread title to get it. How silly....bandz (oi, that was terrible).

There are few bands that have more than one or two songs I like, and if I listed all of those bands there would be dozens. My very favorite band is The Mountain Goats as I love a few of their songs, and my second favorite is Shiny Toy Guns. As you can probably tell by the large difference between these two bands, I have no favorite genre, and will listen to anything that I think is good, which to date is pretty much everything except country music, which just isn't my taste at all.

John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats is definitely my favorite songwriter though, the lyrics in their songs are among the best out there. Autoclave and No Children are just amazing to listen to.

Dark Tranquillity, Judas Priest, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Demons and Wizards (big surprise there huh), Manowar, Moonsorrow, Arkona. Those are a few of the ones that I can keep coming back too, yet I never grow bored with. Well, I do get bored with some of Manowar, but they have so many awesome records between the crap that there's always something great to listen to.

Uhm... lately I've been listening to Septic Flesh's Communion and Sumerian Daemons. Especially the songs Communion and Sangreal. Also been listening to Falkenbach newest, Tiurida. Yesterday I discovered Shulman which I'm liking a lot, so I'll probably listen to that for a while as well. Other than those three mentioned, just a lot of other stuff.

I see a lot of bands and artists I listen to as well. I'm mostly into Tool, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, CCR, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Live and Radiohead right now.

To the OP: if you're into Tool, you should definitely check out A Perfect Circle, it's a sideproject from Tool's singer Maynard James Keenan, it's similar to their music but more melodic and less dark. They have three albums, the last one being only covers. Start with their first release, Mer De Noms, see if it's something for you, and move onward from that.

Did I really just see the word "punk" without The Ramones mentioned anywhere?

But seriously OP, if you're looking for something new to listen to go buy The Ramones (album) and Rocket To Russia and listen to both of them the whole way through. You can thank me later

My absolute favorite band is Godspeed You! Black Emperor. After that, it changes all the time depending on what I'm really digging or want to listen to. At the moment, I'm torn between an obsession with American folk and black metal, so I'm listening to a lot of bands from and around these styles.
