no it's not. thats why I wanted to post this, so everyone could find different bands. I find it annoying that I listen to all the same bands for years. If I can't incorporate at least one new band in my library after a couple years, then I start becoming bored. Or until the bands I like put out a really good album!

You should get http://www.last.fm/home. Get recommendations similar to the artists you listen to.

And damn, some of my favourites... just check my http://www.last.fm/user/KingToxin.

Yey! PJ!

Sometimes I feel I'm the only one in my town that knows about her! I bought her latest cd and there was only one in stock in the store... and never got refilled!

She's reasonably big here in the UK. Although she was moreso back when her famous albums came out...

Although a massive amount of the music I listen to isn't stocked in most record stores at all, so I think we have different ideas of what "unknown" is :P

Ayreon

A project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen, with mostly guest musicians(yay for Jorn Lande, Hansi Kursh, Bruce dikeinson or Floor Jansen). :vaultboy:

Not quite sure what genre they are. I like to call them Progressive Fantasy Space Metal Opera.
I am liking their music, but what interests me the most is the whole "Rock opera" concept, where all the albums are connected into a huge & cheesy Sci-Fi/Fantasy plot. I am loving it!

Yeah, noticed. There's also Mikael ?kerfeldt from Opeth in the role of 'Fear' somewhere in that album. Sometimes it makes me wonder, with all that intesity in the screaming, how do they keep their clean voices so good.

Yey! PJ!

Sometimes I feel I'm the only one in my town that knows about her! I bought her latest cd and there was only one in stock in the store... and never got refilled!

Her new album (Let England Shake) was quite big news here. I bought it, but didn't immediately fall in love with it like I thought I would. I do quite like it, though.

My favourite act is http://youtu.be/MlLDeqGIl5c. Asking what he sounds like is a bit like asking what David Bowie sounds like: "well, I think he's done everything once". You could get stuck on a desert island with nothing but JG Thirlwell's recordings to listen to and it would be a year or two before you'd heard everything once! Just his main stuff, he's released over 40 records under 19 aliases (including http://youtu.be/MqwssaqoxRU, http://youtu.be/ApV6fRFdPeA and http://youtu.be/Z-1PGo53JKc), and that's before you get into all the remixes and guest appearances and collaborations. You probably know him from the http://vimeo.com/22132926, which he scores.

Other than that, I'm a fan of http://youtu.be/OXEVCQ1wAFA, http://youtu.be/g6D9V4-qFf4, http://youtu.be/MBesP5r6c80(before they went rubbish), Radiohead, and Nine Inch Nails. I really loved that last http://youtu.be/K0g7R3xqdcM album, too.

As someone who does both; screaming and growling - if done properly - use different parts of the throat to singing, and shouldn't [censored] up your voice.
