Favorite Battle Style

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 1:25 am

Unarmed has to be my all time favorite, using the Scribe Counter and Great Khan sand throw trick. Also fighting Deathclaws one on one, completely unarmed, hopped up on Slasher is pretty exhilarating.

What's your favorite method of battle? And what's your favorite weapon/attack style?

My default style is mid-to-long-range sniper - which is why the All-American is a perfect weapon for me. I like to sneak up on enemies, and then dispatch them before they even get to shoot back or even draw a weapon. I've tried other gunning styles during roleplaying - straight-out assault grunt, shotgun cowboy, etc., but unless I consciously try to not do it I gravitate naturally towards the All-American and guns like it. I also tend to prefer silenced weapons and sneak criticals, to the point of crouching almost all the time when doing random exploration. (Which is why I'm loving the WMX mod - you can imagine my thrill when I found out that there's a silencer mod for the All-American/marksman carbine.)

I also love playing unarmed though. Unless I'm playing New Vegas with someone in the same room, I like to go "LEEERROOOY JENKINS" when I spot an enemy, as I charge towards them. It hasn't gotten old yet.

Close up with melee/ unarmed for me, probably due to a background in fantasy games not shooters. Love charging in sword drawn or defeating someone just with my fists, though I did enjoy a close in weapon like the Combat Shotgun in Fallout 3. A sneaky sniper's never been for me.

Ranged attacks with rifles, though my character isn't much a fighter.

My Fallout characters have always been sharpshooters, and always with scoped bolt-action rifles. Sometimes I try other weapons and tactics, but it always comes back to being a sniper, preferring to take down enemies from long-range, when they're usually standing around like clueless idiots.

I like power  Plasma Casters (with meltdown) brush guns, hunting rifles, 12.7 pistols, 12.7 smg, AMRs, the big bomer, Oh Baby, super heated saturnite fists and ballistic fists are some of my favs.

Basically mid to close range with EWs, Mid to long range with guns, hard hiting melee/unarmed weapons
Its not that i dislike automatics but there are somany games without without heavy hitting semi automatic guns out there that i gotta squeze as much hard hitting guns i can in fallout.

I also do enjoy using overpowered guns to obliterate enemies, silenced 12.7 sub machine gun...classic...

WMX is one of my favourite mods simply for giving me the ability to add a scope onto Paciencia. There is literally no other ranged weapon I would rather have then a scoped Paciencia, adding .308 JSP Hand Load rounds makes it near perfect in my eyes. The sniper is my default character.

For some reason, I stayed away from the Big Guns skill. I always felt I would break the game using such powerful weapons...dunno why I think like that. In turn, I also stayed away from the Unarmed skill solely because I could imagine my character defeating a whole squad of Super Mutants with bare hands alone. That's a bit silly.

New Vegas is no different. I am a STALKER kind of post-apocalyptic gamer, so I have reason to believe that if you don't have a leightweight but efficient ranged weapon, accuracy on point...you're out of luck. There are too many horrid mutants in the wasteland to take any other chances. This is the kind of thing portrayed in books, movies, etc etc

For that reason, I also invest a good bit into the sneak skill. Aside from the sweet feeling of laying down those criticals, I want to be able to AVOID enemies I don't feel like messing around with. Conserving ammo and whatnot.

And...of course....repair. I love checking up on my arsenal to make sure I'm getting the most efficient use out of the gear that I have. I would someday love to find time to create a TRUE wasteland mod...very ominous and vast FO3-style wasteland, with a touch of Lonesome Road. Nothing but land, a few shacks and houses here and there, and the occasional horde of raiders/gangs. Resources EXTREMELY scarse, no excess fallout clutter bull. I would love to simulate that feeling portrayed in recent movies like The Road or *sigh* Book of Eli.

I generally scout an are before charging in. I take out as many as I can from long-range with my sniper rifle, and when they get too close I take out my assault carbine and take care of the rest. Smart don't you think?

I have so much fun with explosives. Missile launchers and mini nukes and grenades just do it for me. Just being able to completely obliterate groups of enemies is fun!

I avoid using any guns. Boone and Cass are good enough fighters for me to ignore my surrounding enemies. I occasionally whip out my scoped varmit rifle from time to time. Ill probably get a guass rifle and use that eventually.

To each their own. On my last pacifist playthrough, I upgraded from a 9mm Pistol that I still had from Goodsprings and I had only fired three shots out of, to Maria.

whatever keeps me in good shape and kills my enemies quickly and efficiently with the least ammo used so usually a sniper but sometimes i may use a battle rifle or a hunting shotgun or even sneak around with my hatchet or throw grenades whatever it takes to keep me alive.

Because you play on a console? Because it's pretty damn hard to aim with the controller when I try to use it.

Well its cause they are not used to it, and then they think its hard for everyone. Ignorance i believe you call it. Many of my friends that play with me on my console (that normally use pc) can easily get used to console. Dont mind those pc players that say its hard, they just have no idea what their talking bout.

Actually the main reason why is because once you get used to it, the mouse is so much more accurate then the anolog stick. I'm not trying to be smug about it, its just a fact.

Getting as close as possible then slash away with Chance's Knife. It's incredibly satisfying. Only challenge is keeping the NCR off my back at long distances. That's what Rex is for i guess.
