I love castles and over the years I may have seen them all (?). Only a few have been a 'must' in every new game I have started, there are a lot out there that are either too large or too empty for my taste. I prefer more the small castles with 'real' interior like all the castles have that are mentioned above. Additionally I like (and have in my present game) following castles:
Castle Eltz: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32500
A small little cutie and it comes for free. Unfortunately a bit out of the way and not much space for all my belongings (I am a collector, you now?), more the kind of a summer or weekend residence. But a very good spot for taking pictures with your character...
Bedwyr Castle: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32662
Came 'out of nothing' some days ago and is a very pretty 'living' castle in a very nice spot. Unfortunately a bit expensive, so it is nothing for a new hero...
Castle Wolfspike: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30288
My prime residence right now. A lovely interior combined with a beautiful spot, enough space for all and anything and some secrets to find. Don't miss the hidden cave under the castle, it is really worth the search.
Tantrivalya: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29081
A different kind of castles, actually it is a whole quest, starting in a new small town. If you can solve the quest, the castle will be your price. In my present game I use either Castle Wolfspike or this one, depending on where I'm running around...
and finally, an oldie but goldie:
Glenvar Castle: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8235
The interior is not comparable with that of the castles above, it is more of the rustic kind, like Castle Battlehorn. But it is centrally located, has a lot of space, some secrets and two questlines, that are not of the easy kind. At your first runthrough you'll surely have to go to the thread of Glenvar Castle and look for the walkthrough.
