Favorite City

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:28 pm

I voted for Daggerfall.

Not that it's a very good town (it's kinda a generic TES2 town, except it's big), but I miss the giant cities with hundred of NPC walking by the streets.
Vivec or Imperial City look like countryside villages compared to it.

Balmora

It'll always have a special place in my heart as, "That cozy little river-town, where I first found work and friends." It really was the coolest town in Morrowind. And although the guards called me "scum" I know that they were saying, "We're just watching out for you."

people kept saying why don't you make it yourself?

Good to get the recognition I (and a few others) deserve. :P

My vote is still for Balmora.

Caldera. I don't care if it's only a town. I have so many great memories from that place. The look, the feel, the sounds... it was crazy realistic. My very first character's home was in Caldera. I killed the guy living in the house next door to the mages guild. I piled up all my crap and got a loot bag. Ah, good times.

But since it isn't on the list, I voted Balmora. The first big town you go to as a newcomer to the game. Great, lush place.

I liked Cheydinhal in Oblivion.
I just really liked the architecture, its loctation, and the view of the mountains made it different from any other city (except Bruma.)

Well, sadly, i have only played oblivion, though its an incredible game, dont get me wrong, but i dont know too much about TES series aside from what i have learned in oblivion, but my favorite city in oblivion was bruma, and i couldnt really tell u why, i just really like it. but, i think that if kvatch werent blown up, it probly would have been freaken awesome, i would have loved to have seen kvatch as a whole city. If elder scrolls V somehow takes place in cyrodil again, id very much like to see a rebuilt version of the city. but i really hope they dont use cyrodiil again

Hm. Really tough choice. I ended up going with Skingrad because I hadn't been to too many places in Morrowind (Balmora was nice but it felt like a waystation on your road to greatness, and Vivec, on the other hand, felt too big and confusing), and I never really played Daggerfall, and Oblivion's cities, although very small, felt enfused with the histories, none moreso than Skingrad. I just didn't get that with Morrowind. They felt more like cities of course but I never got much from them. Balmora would likely be my second choice, with Anvil at third.

The Imperial City looked pretty cool but I haven't played Oblivion that much. Then my second I guess is Vivec probably because if how the actual character Vivec looks. His skin looks like it's made of armor. Mournhold was pretty luxurious too.

Caldera. Out of these choices.. I went with Daggerfall. Lots of guilds and shops, huge, but somehow has more personality than something like the imperial city.

While Oblivion's cities are generally emptier, I voted for New Sheoth. I'm in love with the architecture and atmosphere of both sides, insanity aside. I think the overall layout (layered and crammed buildings, narrow alley-ways, etc) is representative of what should have been done in the vanilla game; just add more NPCs. Considering the closed-in nature of the cities of Cyrodiil, I think they all should have probably appeared to be quite crammed together, due to the limited space to grow outward (but I do think there should have been some additions outside the city walls, as well, as a result of some sprawl). So they'd have had to grow up, instead, as population increased. I think what the Imperial City needed most was clutter and more NPCs. In the market it probably should have been crammed with stalls selling all sorts of goodies.

Reason I didn't vote for Balmora of Morrowind is because I'm just so sick of seeing it. Same with Vivec. Even though every time I visit vivec I end up taking at least one screenshot of the banners LOL. But I agree, it needed to look more like the original concept art. All that aside though, I must admit, I have a soft spot for the Telvanni towns, particularly the architecture and vivid colors.

Vivec takes the cake for me.

(You know... Because it actually looks sort of like a ton of wedding cakes embedded into the sea, with like 4 layers and stuff, and there's totally bridges and stuff between the cakes and it's totally weird and... Um... Yeah.)

But in seriousness, Vivec does well because the continuous nature of the maps in Morrowind just lent itself to the sheer size of Vivec; from the air or swimming between the cantons, you could just admire the whole grandiosity of the city. It was absolutely nothing like The Imperial City, which you could never really get a good feel of how large and splendid it was because you were most likely fast-travelling all over it. And because of that fast-travelling, you never really felt that it was big... And it really wasn't, I think. It takes about a minute to get from the jails to the stables through the main city by foot, and that's saying something; it'd take a LOT longer to get from the silt strider station of Vivec to Vivec's palace, partially because there were lots of specific bridges you had to take, but regardless, it actually is a lot further of a distance, methinks.

I think the only part of the Imperial city that really had anything going for it was the Waterfronts district; it's openness really made it the most beautiful part of the city... And it's considered the freaking slums of the Imperial City, darnit!

I will give credit to Skingrad, though. It's easily the most interesting of the Oblivion Cities, since it's so layered and crowded; it really lends itself to feeling like a big, hefty city.

I say either the imperial city because the jail area from above looks like a pokeball or mournhold because i think it is peaceful and just relaxing oh and because the high ordinators don't say "were watching you scum".

It's difficult to say, New Sheoth is amazing but felt really empty though I still voted for it. It's interesting.. particularly how both cities symbolise both sides of madness. Then again I thought Anvil was great too, very nice

Then again i'd never played Morrowind or any of the others.

Skingrad looks spectacular but there's little to actually do there. All the other cities seem to have so much more importance than Skingrad.
