Favorite Fallout game in the series

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 11:47 pm

First off, I would like to introduce myself, I'm new to the forum :D. What is your favorite Fallout game in the series? Mine would have to be Fallout 3, the story was great and all of the add-ons were great too.

The only games I've played through are Fallout and Fallout 3 so I'm not really in a position to comment about the series as a whole. I enjoyed both

Fallout 1 is my favorite, but Fallout 2 is a very close second because its bigger and has many fixes that FO1 needed.

Probably Fallout 2 because it's a bigger world... although I felt more immersed into the story in Fallout 1. I dunno I like'm both.

Although Fallout 1 has better writing and is less goofy, I prefer Fallout 2 over it. Guess I'm biased since I started with 2.

I like Fallout 1 because it's less "in your face" and a more contained package. That said, it has a lot of little annoyances that Fallout 2 rectified, so while I enjoy Fallout 1 more, I replay Fallout 2 more. Fallout 3 can be sweet with some mods, but the experience feels a bit "light" for me.

I prefer the game play of Fallout 3, but when it comes to the story? Fallout 1 and 2 surpassed Fallout 3 by miles... Fallout 3 was severely disappointing in that department, I really hope Obsidian picks up the slack for New Vegas.

Fallout 3, followed closely by Fallout 1. I hated Fallout 2; too much tribal and pop culture goofiness.

I like darker and more realistic games (I can believe that a virus creates all sorts of mutants but I have trouble believing vault 13 inhabitants devolved to a tribe in less than 80 years and all of a sudden could communicate through visions)

Wish I had other games like it, I don't know of any that have the RPG aspect like it though.

First of all, welcome to the forum, and have http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:5tSB5fAz93pheM:http://www.fishonastick.co.uk/fishonastick.jpg&t=1

I love the gameplay and appearance of Fallout 3. The grays and browns of the wasteland, Big post-war shantytowns, etc. But Fallout and Fallout 2 (the first is my favorite) had the better storytelling and conversations. I'm really looking forward to New Vegas because it combines the storytellers of the originals with the gameplay mechanics of Fallout 3.

I prefer Fallout 2 over Fallout 1 slightly, but only slightly. Because of all the interesting variety of characters and locations. Although i do dislike the goofyness and excessive 'tribal' start.

How do you mean? (meaning multiple characters perhaps? ~if this, then try the Baldur's Gate series or Planescape Torment, Temple of Elemental Evil, and/ or Arcanum).

Try Jagged Alliance 2 for a tactical game with RPG elements (although, it's turnbased). Arcanum has a similar combat style, but nowhere near the depth (it's not tactical, but it's a full-fledged RPG).

Alas, the combat in Arcanum is somewhat broken (a crack in the Gem). Temple of Elemental Evil though, is incredible (once fully patched).
Jagged Alliance 2 is a great step up from Tactics.

Fallout 2 as its bigger, and fixed the interface's few flaws. However fallout 1 was more stable, and didn't tempt Monty Pythons colonel to declare things "far too silly".

You know... I once seriously considered that as a FO3 mod; but I didn't know how to make him spawn and make the comment at the time. :)

As soon as I read that, NV's Wild Wasteland trait jumped straight into mind. Might be a good match.

The original Fallout, it had the best storyline/atmosphere/general writing.

My favorite is Fallout 3. With all due respect to the originals, I don't really care for them. They're fun, but I just don't like them all too much. I hate the first one's time limit and I hate the second one's joke-filled mood. I really like exploring and I felt Fallout 3 exceeded at that while the first two didn't(Bethesda game vs. non Bethesda game ). I also preferred the general atmosphere and immersion of Fallout 3. For comparisons, I love the Baldur's Gate series, I love TES series, and I love Fallout 3, but the first two Fallouts... well, I just don't care for them too much.

Sometimes I actually appreciate the goofiness and weird easter eggs in FO2, maybe I'm the only one but I'm also a huge fan of British absurd slapstick comedy like The Young Ones, Monty Phyton, Bottom, etc.

The absurder the better! Oh well... humor is relative to individual taste of course.

I honestly can't make a decision since I do enjoy Fallout 1, 2 and 3. Most assuredly I'll be enjoying New Vegas as soon as it's released. Easier to mention my lesser liked out of the Fallout series. Goes for Tactics and minimally played Brotherhood of Steel.
