So, who do you have following you around? I have Maeglir and a flame atronach and one of three DB followers. But, to be honest, I usually leave them in the house because they are a pain.

Buffy's horse http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Cho%20Bk%201/ScreenShot679.jpg is a pretty constant companion. And of course, she has an old paladin, Acadian living in her head. Oh, and sometimes she talks to her bow, Slayer.

She's quite a stealthy loner when it comes to fighting, so she figures she has enough company alreadly. Not much privacy, but plenty of company.

I always let Boone watch my back. Wait... I mean, uhh. Boonecleaus the third. He's a level 60 imperial assassin who specializes in archery.

Seriously though, I didn't much care for the followers in Oblivion. But if I had to choose a favorite it would be the flame atronach.

I always carry an atronach familar with me. They just look cooler then the boring ol human followers. I can't choose a favorite because they all look kind of cool, so I try to summon a different familiar depending on my mood at the time.

I do not like the followers in Oblivion. They are always getting in the way of my shots, or stepping in front of my sword. My battleconjurer did have a skeleton for a companion for a while. I made him with the CM Partners mod. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion204.jpg After a while I stopped using him because she was just too overpowered with him there.

Which is why the Adoring Fan is the best: you will never mind shooting him - again, and again, and... again.

Stoker Wolff's pretty powerful, and Arren has a good summons. But overall, I think I like Vilja, best, because the character has so many interactions, based on what you're doing, where you are, even speaking with some other NPC companions.

Frosty likes to travel with one of the mini frost atronachs from frostcraig spire and summon a normal frost atronach when in combat. Its funny to watch them fight together, its like Dr. Evil and mini-me.

Meh, Companions in the base game get in the way, and are not really that well done.
CM partners didn't like to defend me when I was attacked, unless they got hit first, which they rarely did.
CSR was cool, It had a command key, so did Minionz, and with that you could easily join an "evil" faction, but recently I decided to go without any. I might go back to Minionz later.

I don't do "companions" except where a quest demands it, and then it's usually more a matter of "keeping them alive" rather than getting any use out of them. This because Oblivion doesn't really do cooperative AI very well.

On the other hand, my favorite present character, who is an Altmer with the Apprentice birthsign, really needs her summoned Daedra to stay alive. She calls her Flame Atronach "Hot Lips," and her Dremora is "Killroy." She stays behind her summons most of the time, sneaking, wearing the Ring of Khajiiti and a set of bound armor, and rarely engages an enemy directly, except to take occasional potshots at them with ranged spells.

Her other occasional summonses are her skeleton "Slim," and her first companion, a Scamp named "Spanky." She has just reached Expert, and has learned spells for summoning a Clannfear and a Frost Atronach, but she hasn't named them yet.

Yay! Someone else who names their summons. Buffy absolutely adores her clannfear, Spike. He is nasty mean, crazy aggressive, tough as iron and charges right into combat - exactly everything Buffy is not. :blush2:

It's this character who's doing it. I had been playing my usual alternating-three-characters-at-a-time, and somebody on the board gave some (wise and correct) advice to somebody, about not using Altmer, avoiding Apprentice birthsign, not making Alchemy a major, yada-yada... all the usual good advice...

...And then the phrase "Silvonwe, apprentice of Sinderion" popped into my head... We're at level 13 now, and Silvonwe is demonstrating an absolute (and completely unexpected) hatred of Necromancers.

Killroy is great fun. Dremoras hurl the most amazing insults at their opponents! :)

If we are all honest with oursleves and each other... we all know that the best follower by far is ...

The Adoring Fan.

PS: but if you lie to yourself and say you don't like him, there is a really entertaining way to kill him. which you dont get in trouble for.
Step 1: go to dive rock (if you have found it, if not use UESP) i think you see were this is going :)
Step 2: make him stand at the edge of dive rock
Step 3: tell him you don't want him following you and he will run off the edge and fall to a painful death (90% of the time sometimes he just doesn't) and he runs off because he always runs the direction that IC is. and IC is straight off the tip of dive rock ;) it was made for him

I'd like to be able to take my Adoring Fan everywhere with me but he he too squishy, and dies all the time. So, I leave him at home unless I'm going into town to do some shopping or something. I liked having my mage apprentice, but he died. One hit from a bandit :shakehead:. I love having the Adoring Fan around though, just so I can punch people to hear him say "Hey! What didja do that for? You some kind of, maniac?!" I find it so funny, the way he shouts these things with a huge, gormless smile on his face.

I do not know if this counts, but if we can consider not just 'followers' but 'companions', then I'd go for a Paladin concept that I plan to create with a mod that allows that. Some sort of symbol of virtue to complement my rogue's not so virtuous style....
