Back in the old SNES days, FFIV was released as FFII in USA, and FFVI as FFIII both them heavily censored,..... until the PSX/GBA re-releases toned down the censorship
As for FFV for PSX, it was badly translated, glad that the GBA port fixed that
FFVI wasn't heavily censored. There were a few things (pub to cafe, swear words replaced with other stuff, holy renamed to pearl, a nvde summon lightly clothed instead), but nothing like with some other games. The biggest censoring to hit FFVI was the GBA release. There's a scene where a character is beaten while chained. While brief, this was removed due to kidnapping incidents in Japan, and the censoring carried over to the overseas releases.
Honestly even though the translation is better, I just can't stand how the GBA version BUTCHERS FFVI's music. Some of the best video game music of all time in my opinion... and they subjected it to the GBA's sound system.
